Hello, so I was working on the transmission on my 97 talon and and I had the tranny from my 95 in the shop next to me and I noticed there was an additional part bolted to my 95 transmission right before the slave cylinder.:hmm: After doing some searching I believe this is the restrictor. I'm not sure though as I couldn't find a thread with a pic. While doing that research I found that some people do a "mod" where the remove this restrictor. Is that why my 97 does not have one? Is there anyone with feedback on this mod? I'm looking for feedack from people who have performed the mod and have been running it for awhile? It seemed that most of the feedback on the thread I found was from people how had done the mod relatively recent to the time they posted.

Sorry to post a new thread about this, but I am still a newbie and couldn't post to the thread I found.

Now I'm assuming the part on the left is the restrictor and the part on the right is the slave cylinder. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance tuners!:thumb:

that's the FCU (fluid collection unit) and to be honest i took mine off withing a few weeks of buying iy 11 years ago so i can't remember what it does, but IIRC it helps you burn up your clutch... BUT the restrictor that REALLY slips the hell out of the clutch is a little black disk with 3 legs and a spring that's under the banjo bolt at the actual slave cylinder, just pull the banjo bolt and line and the spring and little black disk should fall out.

Most people do remove BOTH the FCU and restrictor as both slow the clutch's return motion to make drivign a manual easier for the everyday idiot while smoking the clutch for those who shift on the WOT tip and wonder what they're smelling

The part on the left is called the accumulator, and you're correct about the slave cylinder being on the right. For most people, they get a SS clutch line which goes in place of that accumulator, going from the hard line to the slave cylinder. Some people using a twin disc clutch actually want that piece (I forget the reason why - I believe it helps with clutch engagement and making it easier/smoother), so if you don't plan on using it, you can throw it up for sale and someone might pick it up. If not, it'll just collect dust on a shelf or in a bin.

I think it's also called a clutch damper. It helps absorb/ transfer clutch pressure. When I bought a stainless clutch line I removed it because I couldn't get it off. It turns out I don't really need it. Put about 2k miles without it with no problem. But I have a act 2100. I don't think it makes a difference!

Search...
Clutch damper... <--- on the forums. You'll come up with some facts about it. Good luck!

So I searched "cluch damper" and found that it is called a clutch accumulator. I found a link to a write-up on vfaq where they cut it apart and it is just a hallow pipe that accumulates cluch fluid. It is there simply to reduce feedback felt in the cluch pedal.

Now can someone show me a pic of the restrictor or a write up on how to remove it? I dont want to start tearing apart my new cluch slave cylinder without being sure of what I am doing.

Thanks again guys.
