clutch recommendations

I'm wanting to replace my clutch soon and want some info on experiances with clutches. Need a good street clutch, mods are ported evo3 16G, obx tubular header, megan racing ported o2 housing, 3" downpipe and rest of ehaust, greddy type rs bov, wallboro 190 pump, apexi cold air intake, nxs MBC. Car is daily driver, stop n go traffic with occasional bursts of leadfoot on open road , so ya I'm kind of leaning towards act 2600 (although I've heard stories of throw out bearing being no good on them), and centerforce, I'll more than likely change flywheel too, so recommendations are greatly appreciated please, I read some other threads on clutches but they are old (2006) thanx

Go with an ACT2600 just make sure you get a sprung clutch disk they are better for driving around on the street or on a dailly basis!!

Bear in mind that the springs have failed before on ACT street discs. There was a time a few years ago when a bunch of springs failed, but it seems that ACT has gotten their QC together, a quick search will reveal what I'm talking about. I've used the 2600 for both a 16g setup and then a little bit with a 3052 before upgrading to a Quartermaster. For your setup I'd say a 2600 is definitely a good clutch. If you're worried about CW you may as well check your crank for endplay while you're replacing the clutch anyway, just a suggestion.

hows are the 3 pucks? There is a ebay store called gripforce that deals with alot of different clutches and seems to be resonably priced

i have the f1 stage 3 racing clutch on my fwd tsi and seems to pretty good their made by gripforce.. My friend also had one on a awd but it only lasted for about a year and half but that was with some harsh driving... Mine seems to be really holding up well but only had mine on for 3 to 4 months now... But overall seems pretty good for the price and it has never slipped on me either..

there is also a F1 stage 4 but it doesnt come with the flywheel, I'm thinking I'll go with the exedy stage 2 and ask about the flywheel package, maybe I can convince them to throw it in for cheap

Competition Clutch Stage 2 with their lightened flywheel is a great setup. And it's a GREAT price point. Reported good for 400hp and really nice engagement. It's more or less the same clutch that SBR brands as their own. I love it, whereas I hated my Spec Stage 2+ (6puck hybrid disk). The CC bites hard enough, but I must admit I miss the big bite of the Spec unit.

I like the act clutch. I had one in my 95 gst dd and never had a problem. I have one in my 99 gsx also no problems. If your clutch mastercylinder is old replace it too they will leak after a stiffer clutch or both of my cars did.

I used the SBR version of the CC clutch, I think it was called the 3500 but I honestly forget at this point, with a organic disk and had a bad experience. it was supposed to be equivalent to the 2600 but barely lasted a few months on a 16g powered car that was trapping around 112 on pump gas and being driven occasionally at most. When we pulled it out the PP was trashed and the ACT chromoly flywheel needed to be resurfaced. While there may have been some user error involved, overall I thought the 2600 we replaced the SBR with was a better clutch, albeit with more pedal pressure.

So I messeged gripforce about the exedy and how it says "ask about the clutch/lightweight flywheel package" and got a response that stated the full price for the clutch plus what the full price of the flywheel was followed by the total including shipping. I asked them how they saw it as a "package deal" when both items are full price. Now I could be wrongly mnisinformed over the years, but isnt a "deal" usually when you buy something cheaper than full price?...Not so sure I'll be ordering from them, so now I'm back to square 1 for my search, I'm looking for the 4-500 $$ range as I'll be paying a shop to install it wich will pretty much cost me another $800 as all "mechanic book times" say 8 1/2 hrs....ugg...

My personal recommendation would be ACT 2600 w/ full face street disc and an ACT flywheel. It's tried and proven, people have been putting ACT's through hell and back for years. Puck discs are awful for street driving especially if you're awd (which you're not). If you're going to spend all that money just do it right the first time, don't leave it up to chance.

ACT clutch and Flywheel, oem throw-out bearing, oem rear main seal, new clutch bolts and new flywheel bolts.

Good idea to check the step height on the flywheel, shim the pivot ball with a 3/8 washer, and tip your technician $20 so he does an extra good job. I also recommend Redline MT-90 tranny fluid.

alright so I can get a exedy stage 2 with a lightweight fly wheel for $557, or I can get an act 2600 xtreme with street disc for $429 but will still haveto buy a flywheel...wich path should I go, $550 is even alittle outta budget but still willing to pay upto that... need to know wich path to choose and soon as the act offer is only good for 24 hrs...thanx

A few locals have been trying something different lately.

One car is just over 500 awhp, one is 450awhp. both on mustang dyno

Both of these guys are running an ACT 2100 with a 6 puck. The one has put some significant milieage on it, and the other just swapped out his act 2600 for this setup.

Alot of the lower powered cars (300awhp mark) are using this setup also.

Personaly, I used a Fidanza 4.3 and it has held up great, but my car was only running a s16g @ 18lbs.

well after doing alot of reading and alot of video watching I went with the exedy stage 2 with a F1 prolight flywheel, I read a tonnes of stories about the act clutches springs in the discs being destroyed, discs getting melted into the pressure plate and pretty much had more horror stories for them than exedy so I got the stage 2 kit with prolight wheel for $558 cndn, thanx for the recommendations guys, next question, is it difficult to change a clutch?? or am I better off paying a shop to do it?

i went with exedy stage 1 i like it and f1 racing flywheel. didnt really want to go with the f1 flywheel but didnt have much money at the time

I have always had great luck with the ACT 2600 with a street disk paired with an ACT streetlite flywheel and an OEM mitsu TOB. Its a great combo for street use, not too heavy but still gives enough grip for the occasional trip down the 1320.

I thought the fidanza flywheel was aluminum? which shouldnt be used in boosted or supercharged applications due to the extra torque warps them easily.

Clutch should be here today or tomorrow, installed on fri, i'll post results of how it feels/holds up, thanks for the posts guys
