I am having this problem with my clutch that I cant figure out. The car I bought has new rebuilt motor with 0 miles and aftermarket clutch. I cant seem to get the clutch to work properly. I try to go into first gear and it grinds and wont go. I have replaced the slave cylinder today with ss braided line from the master to the slave cylinder. The master looks to be new and was empty when I got the car. I have bled the system alot and the pedal still feels soft and easy. I have tried the adjustment rod above the gas pedal, I have tried the clutch switch backing it out. No results. Same pedal same grind. My next move I guess is to replace the master. One thing I should note, I can move the slave cylinder rod pretty easy by hand back into the slave cylinder. When I push it all the way towards the driver side, the last little bit I can hear it grinding the flywheel or clutch pressure plate or something inside the tranny. Any help would be appreicated. I need to find out if I have a bad tob or master or bent or broken fork. Im trying to get my car running and this is the last part.

No sure now
Before the clutch would grab right off. Floor i adjusted the rod on master cylinder. I really hope its master cylinder. I dont understand why i push the slave cylinder all the way in it sounds like its grinding inside the tranny.

If you're pushing the slave in with the TOB arm the grinding inside the trans may be from the pivot or TOB slide ? Both should be greased up during clutch swap but if arm is pushed back towards the slave the TOB goes farther back than it would naturally and starts making odd sounds.

Cool so if pushed in too far (toward the driver side) slave will make funny grinding sounds?
Changing master today hope it fixes it
.

Pushing the slave cylinder in shouldnt make any kind of sound. Adjusting the master cylinder rod could be a lot of your issue. However if you get it adjusted correctly and you still have this problem Im betting the step height on the flywheel is off. Do you know what kind of flywheel the previous owner installed? Two solutions for this scenario. Shim the pivot ball or have the flywheel checked and stepped correctly.. Both require to pull the trans.

Watch and adjust the master rod according to this video. If you still are having issues you'll need to drop the trans.

I looked at this video and I made adjustment just enough to where i can push slave in by hand. I kust noticed when car is running and i push slave in all the in it grinds. The guy told me the clutchis centerforce but never said anything bout flywheel. I am thinking the tob or pivot ball is toast just hoping its master cylinder fingers crossed. If in fact i have to drop tranny i will be getting different clutch. I have heard bad things bout cf. Stepping the fkywheel can be done at any auto parts store right?

I had the same issue with my talon and I had to replace the clutch fork and pivot ball because it was worn really bad on the fork side so I replaced both. Hope you get it figured out :thumb:

I was afraid of that. So putting in new fork and pivot ball fixed your problem. Looks like new clutch and fork and pivot ball. Gonna have to get stock or close to it clutch.

Also I know they make longer slave cylinder rods for aftermarket clutches and tob's I believe road race engineering and extreme psi have them

If you push the slave cylinder in toward the driver side of the car, you are lifting the TOB OFF of the pressure plate. It should just be floating in air and not touching anything. And you say when you push the slave in you hear grinding?
Hate to say it but it sounds like you need to drop the tranny to figure out that grinding.

If you want to try the extended rod:
Search Ebay for
DSM EXTENDED CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER ROD
about $7

Just a thought...Did the car run since clutch install? Did someone put the disk in backwards?.. happens LOL clips come off to bearing? my tranny makes a little growling but its got a 6 puck springless disk..

I have started it alot but only drove it up and down my road twice. Second time i noticed when i pushed clutch in it took 2-3 seconds before rpms dropped. Yeah the grinding comes when i push slave all the toward driver side. Pretty sure its either
Fork
Tob
Pivot ball?
Maybe a flywheel not stepped to right spec.
All of which i need to drop tranny. That being said im going to get new clutch so i know what has been done. How much power will stock one hold? Or maybe a exedy oem replacement?
Looks like id be wasting my time puttin in new master but least this way it will be new.

Exedy DSM Stage 1 Organic Clutch Kit

Found one on amazon for $250 and shepstrans sells them for $300, good for 400hp. If you are going to do any mods this is a good choice.

Either go with the extended rod or shim the pivot ball while you have the tranny out.

Just ordered a clutch masters clutch kit. Im going to go ahead and change the clutch cause ive nothing but bad stuff about centerforce clutches. If in fact my fork or pivot ball are bad ill replace them then. I didnt get a chance to put in my master cylinder {hard to find time with 2 kids LOL}. I was told this clutch should hold about 425-450hp. I didnt want to buy a stock clutch and it go out on me later when I start making real power. Hoping after all this I can begin the modding process. I have parts sitting in my garage waiting til this car gets up and running.
