Friend of mine did just this, but he has a slight leak in the lines . Every now and then it will leak oil onto your right leg

heh... more like "yeah it's got pressure!" or "hmm, might need to check the oil" my husband's gauge actually went out on him and he's been driving without it for like... i dunno, almost a year i'd say. and now i'm replacing the turbo. fun times with the eclipse.

There are aftermarket fuel level gauges. Not sure what's involved with using them, but they're out there.
