Hello all I am a new member of this website and just purchased my DSM (97 gst) a month ago. Throughout the past year or so I have ended up on this forum a lot just from general questions about my previous cars or turbos or whatever, and people seem to get very irritated from the poster not searching before creating their thread. So I did a ton of searching. I searched this website and read every thread relevant to my issue, didn't find anything that would apply to me. I searched the internet and found a lot of people with BMWs, camaros, 350zs, etc. or all wheel drive cars shared my problem because of the rear diff/transfer case or something with awd/rwd components clunking.
My problem is a clunking/thudding noise when engaging the clutch. It makes a slight clunk/thud if I press the clutch pedal in quickly, but it's very noticeable while engaging the clutch. If I engage the clutch really really slow it wont make the noise, but if I release the clutch normal speed/somewhat quickly it does it. Happens cruising around shifting between 2nd 3rd and 4th gear, it might do it in 1st and 5th but I never really payed close attention until on my way home tonight when i noticed it going into 3rd. At first I thought it was something rattling in the passenger door like a book or something, but I pressed the brakes quickly to see if that's what it was and nope, seems to be drivetrain related. Previous owner installed an exedy clutch/pressure plate and those components have about 2k miles on them now. Right after I bought the car I had to drop the transmission with my dad and grease the pivot ball because it was making a squeaking noise. During that time i replaced the rear main seal, had the flywheel resurfaced, installed an OEM throwout bearing, and put everything back together correctly (torqued flywheel bolts to spec, torqued pressure plate bolts to spec and in correct sequence etc.) Could it be a bad transmission mount? Sounds like the noise is coming from the passenger side. I'm going to check the mounts tomorrow (I already had 3 of them out while dropping the tranny and they looked fine, not really sure how to tell if they are bad) so any input you guys have would be much appreciated. Thanks
