i just had my clutch replaced about 50 miles ago with an ACT2600. ever since sometimes first gear won't engage. also when i down shift i hear a loud thud noise like i dropped metal on metal. i think that it may maybe the center or rear diff. and for the clutch, would i just have to readjust it?

i also just had coilovers put in all around too so maybe there's something loose in the rear suspension

I would look into motor and trans mounts as well as the suspension it could be where your motor/trans is moving due to a worn out mount somewhere. with the shifting issue you may need slight adjustments, have you tried "bleeding" the clutch? I've had to do that several times on older stick shifts with hydraulic clutches. I'm not 100% if you can do it on yours or not. but there should be a bleeder valve on the clutch slave cylinder if not you can loosen the line at the slave and just open your reservoir and keep pouring in fluid to keep it full and after a few minutes you can tighten the line back up and by doing this it will force any air out of the lines. I hope this helps but keep in mind i am a noob. Good Luck

Figure out where the sound is coming from. But I would check your motor/transmission mounts. And the rear diff. I doubt it would be the rear diff as its not a 50/50 powersplit. The front gets more power. Its probably in your engine mounts.

I had a similar problem. When I shift I also hear a thud in say 1-2-3 gear. found out my tranny mount wasn't even all the way in... friends, helpful for the job but worthless putting things back the way it was LOL

I just installed a set of coilovers a month ago and started hearing a metal on metal noise when I down shifted. After a week it got worse to where everytime I hit a bump thats all you could hear. I jacked the car up and pushed up on all shocks with my hands and noticed it was my drivers side rear, I had to take the adjustment knob off the top of the coilover and tighten the bolt under it ,its a 17mm. If it is your coilovers its a 5 minute fix.

Hopefully it is your suspension and not your clutch. It would suck to take the tranny back off to readjust the clutch.

Wait, wait wait. There's been stickies and posts and tech articles abound and your conclusion is that you will tell other members that "it's not a 50/50 split" and "the front gets more power" ?

Forgive me if I've made an oversight.

pop the hood, and have a friend gently rev the engine in or out of gear, the more load the more the engine will move. If the engine is moving excessively, its time to replace those mounts.

also maybe your u-joints, if so equipped are aging and getting "slack".

every RWD car eventually gets that slack feeling with enough miles, something between the trans and the wheels is loosening up
