2G Weird noise when starting

When I start my Eclipse I hear this strange snapping/scratching noise, And it's not consistent because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Also, it seems like the noise can be quiet or, get louder at times.

If it never makes the sound beside when starting the car, I would look at the starter engagement or disengagement. Look at the starter teeth around your flywheel/converter to see if it is possibly having an engagement issue.

Specifically listen to the 2nd video in my original post where it finally does start. There's kind of a growling noise that sounds a bit like yours. It went away after I disassembled, cleaned and greased the starter.

You should be looking for which one(s) is loose enough to vibrate and make that noise.
