I have a 96 GSX that has been sitting around for the last few months while trying to get salvaged. I replaced the shocks and installed some tokico illuminas. I drove it to the next town over(15 minutes there and 15 back.) and didn't notice anything different but being smoother than the blown stock shocks. It sat for another month. I figured since I didn't have anything to do I'd change the transmission fluid. I test drove it for like 10 minutes. I missed my car so I just had to step on the gas :ohdamn: Not sure if that's what did it but when I got back into town i was turning and I hear a "Clunk Clunk" when I turn it all the way to the side.

I used Penzoil Synchromesh. It was A LOT thinner than the fluid that came out. Almost like water.

My tie rod is out, so it could be that. but that clunk has never been there until I did the transmission fluid change.

The other threads I looked up said to check tie rod ends, cv joints, and I came across a thread that had the same problem and it turned out to be his center differential :(. Any feedback would be appreciated. How do you guys suggest I pinpoint my problem?

The noise sounds mechanical, and sounds like its coming from the front right near the transmission. Should I switch to a heavier weight? I have the tie rod end but not much time or knowledge to put it in.

Could also be worn out ball joints. Jack the car up and put jack stands under the front of your car. Now grab a wheel at 12:00 and 6:00 respectively and try and jiggle or move the wheel IF iTunes have another person shake it while you check behind it(this could be possible worn ball joints) if you use the same method and grab the wheel is. 9:00 and 3:00 and shake and there is moving this is the sign of possibly worn tie rod ends. Again a second person isn't necessary but sure makes looking at the parts a lot easier.

If you had heard the " clunk clunk" while accelerating I would suspect a bad rear motor/transmission mount.
