OK, hello all and thanks in advance for reading.

I just bought my car a little over 3 weeks ago and drove it for the first time today in the snow. It seems the CV shaft is clicking when i spun my tires on the snow today. It sounds exactly like how my explorer sounds in 4x4 when i spin my tires on the snow but i was told by 2 shops that its not cv shaft but my Hubs were bad. I just had the tranny replaced and was told everything was perfect...untill i just called him and was told that during one of the insert and removal of the drivers side(where sound is comming from) cv shaft he says the spindal(part that goes into the tranny) got "buggered" up, but he fixed it(he told me he re did the threads???). I dont understand how he could have fixed the cv shaft, as they are made a specific size and wouldnt re-threading it make it smaller, aka make it slip. Could that be the sound i am hearing??

The threaded part is where the wheel nut bolts on. Nothing to do the splines, which is what keeps it from turning in the hub. If you hear clicking from the CV Joint, either dirt got in or the grease leaked out and it wore out. You'll probably need a new axle. Look for a hole in the CV boot, as that's usually how grease or dirt get in/out.

Ok he says it was the part of the cv shaft that goes into the tranny. He just used the term re-threaded cause it was easier then explaining what he acually did. He bent some of the spines(whatever tehy are called) and straightened them.

If you don't know how to check your CV's and wheel bearing's I would recomend that you go to another shop that has never seen your car, that way you can get the truth about what the other tech done to your car.

well there's no threads on that part, just splines.

And if its clicking its more than likely a bad cv joint.

Something else is wrong now LOL. I dont know if it is connected or not, but now my speedometer is on the fritz, it works then dosnt. Seems to work more often then not when i take it out of gear. Ill be crusing down the road and wont have any speed, press the clutch in and take it out of gear and most of the time it will work then. Put it back in gear and after maybe 3-5 secs, it will go to 0 again....could this be connected to anything i mentoined before??

The vehicle speed sensor is in the transmission, and there is an electrical connector to it that connects to the wire harness. Check to see if it's securely connected.

As for the clicking, could be a bad shaft. Though, one time my buddy stripped the threads on his shaft and tried tightening the nut as much as possible to secure it to the hub. He'd cruise down the road and if he turned the wheel ever so slightly it would make a clicking noise because the shaft wasn't flush against the hub, and it was slipping out just a bit. Just a thought...
