i just replaced my transmission and when i installed my CV shafts i was pretty sure that they were in all the way because i couldnt push them any further in but now im not so sure. Today i put Gear oil in my tranny and before i was done it was leaking heavily out of the holes where the CV's go. The Green block on the end of the shaft is not butting up to the tranny, there is about 1 1/2 inches between the tranny and the block on the shaft. Is that how far they are supposed to be? if so then what is causing the leaking?

There is a larger diameter on the shaft (the part of the axle that goes into the tranny) that seals on the axle seals on the tranny. If the axle is that far out then i'm sure its not sealing. Best pull the axle out and check the lock ring, its possible its pulled outwards so far that it can't slip into the differential.

Im not sure on a 2G FWD about the "extra space" but it sounds like the seals were damaged upon removal of the CV shafts.

Well, two options are actually possible. First: your cv shaft is not properly installed ( you should feel a snap while entering it into the tranny, the circlip should be snapped in the groove of the tranny front diff )

Second: your cv joint tranny seals are totally trashed or there is even no seals at all.

look for this

im thinking that the lock rings were preventing me from pushing the shaft all the way into the tranny. because i never felt a snap when putting them in...they just stopped and thats as far as they went. i will try pulling them out to where i can tighten that lock ring some so they push all the way in.
