ok so i got back from the store last night when my TOB alerted me because it sounded like a knocking sound. anywho it caused me to look under the car to which i saw tranny fluid dripping on the ground. it seemed to be coming from where the cv shaft enters the transmission. also a few notes ive had my car in first on jack stands and the passanger side (with the leak) seems to struggle at rotating. even when holding the left wheel from spinning. the passenger wheel studders and barely rotates.
this is a 97 gst
any help would be appreciated, im assuming its the drive shaft and hopefully just that i need to replace.

My buddy had his gsx have the same problem. His axle seal failed on him but by the time he caught it the trans lost so much fluid it ate itself. Not saying that's your case but I would pull the axle out and see if there is any shavings. Then replace both axle seals since that's a rule of thumb. And see what happens, it's not good that it studders while free rolling.

You should be able to check your fluid but any lube shop should only charge you a very small amount for filling it up. I would just make sure that you have no metal in your fluid then check it out real good. It hard to say what's exactly going on but definitely is odd.

Do not drive the thing. Your description brings a few things to mind.

1.Unfortunately, the sound you were hearing was not likely to be the TOB, but more likely the bearings in the trans, among other things making the noise, depending on how much fluid has been lost and how long its been driven this way. If the car isnt moving and you push in the clutch and the noise goes away, it is generally because its the transmission making the noise and the transmission stops rotating when you push in the clutch if the car is sitting still idling, which is why the noise goes away when you push the clutch.

2. The jerky differential- you may have suffered either damage to the inner axle cup at some point, or the front differential itself. Do you launch the car or spin the wheels regularly? This generally translates to some wheel hop which is very detrimental to the trans and axles. If it were mine, Id remove the axle, inspect the inner cup and splines and if they look good, Id then inspect the seal, take a pic to post it on here, replace the seal and look into the hole that the axle goes into on that side and see if there are metal bits or if the cross shaft is loose. If it looks good, try and put it back together and re fill with fluid and see if its still noisy with the car parked and in neutral.
