I have a contact with a company that could make clear lenses for the 1992-1994 dsm.

I am trying to find out how many people would be interested. If there is a large enough response I could have them made.

I also need to know what you would be willing to pay. Remember this is just the clear lenses, not the whole light assembly.

The company has a 50 set minimum and then there is extra cost to make the mold.

I know it is a lot but the lense would fit your light housing exactly because it would be made by a machine from a professional mold. I don't think you can get oem fit or durability from hand making a lense.

Also you have to think about why there is no one selling handmade lenses. It is probably really time consuming.

Sorry if I seem defensive.

It's all good, defend all you want. I was just trying to point out that there are other ways out there to have this done.

I didn't say the first thing about selling them. I mainly posted it for the DIYers out there. One would already have to bake their housings apart to swap the lenses anyway. They could take the info provided and make their own.

As Phantom also said, it's going to be hard to get that many people to want this bad enough to make this happen so don't be too disappointed if this doesn't.

With that said, If you take the info that David and I posted, you could do it yourself and save a lot of money and still be able to accomplish having clear lenses.

I wish you luck.

It would take 1000 dsmers at 30 bucks a piece or 100 dsmers at 300 a piece for example. plus the cost to buy one set at 125.

Hey I am just going to remind you how kickstarter works. When you donate to a kickstarter you get something in return. The idea is, if there is enough donations through kickstarter then the mold is paid for but at the same time you are promised something in return. This was just an example idea:

1 pair = 125
2 pair = 200
3 pair = 250

35 dollars for each additional pair, up to 10 additional.

13 pair = 600

So what this means is that if you donate 200 dollars to kickstarter then you will receive 2 sets of lenses in return once they are made. What is happening with the mold is actually not necessary information. It is essentially a preorder with a minimum needed to actually cover the cost of production.

There wont be a nightmare with managing it because it is all managed through kickstarter. Everyone that donates puts their address in and after the product is made, it will be shipped to the donors addresses.

If we fail and there is not enough people who donate, then everyone gets their money back because that is how kickstarter works.

I bet it would be a long wait, we'd probably get 20-30 people at the MOST who would put money down on this.

...and I don't know about you guys, but I'm not real comfortable with my 200 dollars(or more) sitting for who knows how long, waiting for this company to reach it's "$30,000 production cost"

I had a little hope in this thread, until we got to the point where it's going to take hundreds or thousands of 1gb owners donating money, not even to get one pair made.

I went to the kickstarter site so we can make sure the correct information is being spread.

"When is my card charged?
If the project you're backing is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged.(https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions?ref=faq_nav)"

I was incorrect to use the word "refunded" because you are never charged unless it is fully funded.

A kickstarter normally lasts for 1 to 2 months(max) and if it is successfully backed you will be getting your lenses.

The perfect number on pre-order would be somewhere around 350 units. The way I came up with this number is an average between the min and max price for the lenses.

(125 + 46) / 2 = 85.5 average price per lense

Then divide the production cost by the average price per lense.

30000/85.5 = 351 units

Interesting, whats the turn around time shouldnt be long right.

The company said after we had secured funding it would take them 60 days to make the mold and then 7-15 days to make a batch of lenses.

Actually it did work out, I found out that multiple people have been having trouble with http://www.dsmpartsonline.com but had not been complaining. I am going to put up an official review on the company soon.

Maybe you should stick to acusing people of being the wrong person?

I said he might be the owner or he may know the owner. Then I pmed him and updated the thread to try to prevent misinformation. It makes sense to protect the user that was mentioned and to have the thread removed to make sure there was no confusion on his association with dsmpartsonline.

#scamalert?
LOL, 30k.
As far as the mold being a scam, this thread is a discussion on what a company has offered and how it could possibly be paid for. If you have a company with a counter offer than please present it.

This thread and the previous thread you referenced have nothing in common. It is intriguing that you are looking through my threads trying to find something to slander.

Also, thanks for the bump.

I like the idea, it's simply been said so many times before that everyone wanted to get something done and it doesn't pan out. I really like the black housing 1gb headlights, if those came back I'd scoop them up quick, finding them used is hard nowadays. Nice looking clears though.

I'm in for 1gb clear headlights and whatever group buy anyone cares to put together, count me in.

P.S. 30k for those molds sounds.........:|, yeah its a lot of time and money to make the molds, but 30k?, please. The product already exists, the product is of a simple design, you are simply duplicating it with a different medium, how much RnD could there possibly be, come on.
