Does anyone here know of any good chicago area engine rebuilders? I'm in desperate need of a rebuild for my 7-bolt. Also I'm working with about $1000.

i think ams is near you and doenst get much better but there not cheap

Apex in Bensenville is the machine shop that AMS uses. You can go directly through them. I'm currently having two blocks sent there within the next week. Their pricing is decent, but the wait time can stretch out a bit.

Haven't brought it to them yet. I still gotta pull the crank/rods/pistons out. I'm just getting a hot-tank, line hone, and deck the surface on both blocks, most likely. Unless there is other damage I haven't found yet. One block spun a balance shaft bearing and one rod bearing, and the other block has over 200k miles on it, and we gonna freshen it up a little. Soon as I get a price, I'll post back on here
If you have never rebuilt a motor.....I wouldn't suggest it. It requires a LOT of proper tools and a fair amt. of know-how. Pay them the $125 to assemble the rotating assembly, then take the block home and bolt everything else on.
Ok so what machine work do you think I would need done on my engine? Basically oil pump went bad and everything seized up.
