1G check engine light

my check engine light blinks on and off every once in a while, anyone else have this problem? it'll come on for a minute or two, then go right back off. the other day it came on and stayed on. I tried to pull the code out of it, though i may not have done it right, and i got nothing. So i disconnected the neg battery cable to clear the code from the ecu and it hasn't been back on since except it blinked on once today and again went back off. anyone have a suggestion? Anyone confirm how to get codes from or cars, to make sure i did it right? I guess something is giong out but not quite out yet, and that's why it's blinkin on and off.

The AutoZones in your area may pull the codes for free.

How do we pull codes out of our 1gs? Do we have an OBD 1 or OBD 2 system?

My CEL was blinking on and off for a while. Then stayed on. I changed my spark plugs and sprayed my o2 sensor with an air compresser and it's gone. If it still feels like it runs fine then it's likely something minor.

I work at Autozone and OBDI's have all sorts of connectors so we do not have all of them. We only carry the domestic stuff to pull codes on OBD1. I would have someone w/ a datalogger pull the code really quick. I would find the local dsm group in your area then bribe one of them to check it for you rather than go to the dealer and pay too much dinero.

There is a way to short to ground under the drivers side of the dash with a diode to pull the code. It doesn't clear it but lets you read the blinks.

I for the life of me can't remember how to do it tho.

Yes there is a way to close a circuit and the ecu will spit out short and long blinks thru ur check engine light which will give you a code (ie 1 long 3 short is 13) that will equall some code...

I wish i could remeber what two things to short and i also wish i knew where my codes list was as to i have a check engine light i need to check now

If ne one has the data on what to short and the codes list i think we all would appreciate it!
