Check engine light on, wont run good under high boost

OK, Here is the story.

I just bought this 95 eagle talon tsi AWD. The car is completely stock accept for a 16g turbo, boost controler, and the exhaust. The check engine light is on and i am almost sure its because the guy i bought it from had the Cat hallowed out, which will usually set the check engine light to go on. Well, usually when the check engine light goes on in a car, it puts the computer to run at a default mode. If the computer is running in the default mode, its basically telling the car to run as if the engine were stock, which its not. Do you think the computer is not putting enough fuel in because it does not know how much air is really being put into the engine? If so, what should i do to get the check engine light off, put a cat there or can i get an o2 MIL eliminator kit.

Tell me if I might be wrong, this is just my BEST guess so far.

Get a datalogger and find out what CEL you have then we can go from there.

If the CEL is for the o2's it does go into default mode, but it doesn't run as if the car is stock. The stock ECU is always set up for a stock car. In default mode it actually adds more fule because it does not know if its running rrich or lean. Its a safety thing too lean = Bad so it runs rich by default.

I would check the CEL and go from there!

heres a quick off topic subject, i kept getting a code for some emissions bullshit. it would do it immediately when i started my car up. something with purge canister or something..does that put the 2g ecu into "default" mode as you call it?

The canister purge code does not put it in default or limp mode. It only goes in that mode when main sensors are bad and where the car will still run like ECT, O2.

For you and the thread initator get a scanner and see what your code is for sure!
So u have somewhere to start.

HAHA, This is F'd up. Dam spark plug wires. To make it even really weird, my friends car just started doing that on the way to pick up my new tsi AWD. Never thought the wires could do that but it was, replaced them and runs like a charm, a fast charm...
