Charcoal canister relocation (1G AWD)

I recently installed a small battery and mounted it down low in the engine bay, right where the charcoal canister was supposed to be. I found a nice little spot underneath the car to relocate it to. This also allowed me to get rid of the extra hard line running all the way up into the engine bay.

As far as I know, the charcoal canister has something to do with reusing the gas vapors, cutting down on wasted gas.

How does it continue working? I thought it needed to be connected to the intake tract to work correctly.
 
I think what you did is basically equivalent to just capping the vapor line out of gas tank.. The charcoal canister if capped like your picture shown, won't be doing anything in term of reducing vapor emission.
 
The bottom of the canister is an open vent, so the caps on the top don't matter. The charcoal inside the canister absorbs some of the vapors, but the main thing it does is prevent positive pressure from building in the fuel tank.

Without having some vacuum pulling from the canister then you are still going to have these vapours that you said you didn't want. Where are they going to go? They will still vent just like if you deleted it, only small amount are goin to absorb into the carbon.
 
Cause some people actually want to pass emissions and the smell of gasoline from the open line isn't going to pass it.

If you're really concerned about passing emissions without that canister you might as well not modify the car.

I had EVERY single emissions piece removed from my '92 Laser, full 3" exhaust with a highflow catalytic converter, 550cc injectors, 190 pump, and had absolutely no problems.

Just eliminate it, seriously WTF
 
Does everything really need to be an argument? :confused: I'm aware the canister is just a fancy vent installed the way it is. Let me try again and go back to the original question:



I did originally, but I like this better than a dangling hose.

If you didn't want the dangling hose you could of always traced the brass line to the underside of the car and cut it short :rocks:
 
Dangling hose, cut line, same thing. My cutout shoots a flame to my rear axle on the two step. ;) I still like this better than dangling the rubber hose off the back of the tank. I'm not trying to convince anyone to go put their canister back on; I just thought it was a cool idea I would share. :cool:
