Here's a hacked together version of that tool, along with step-by-step instructions:
Kibblewhite Part #s for '03 250F - ThumperTalk
1. Install valve
2. support valve with rags as above
3. Place spring in location
4. Place keepers in spring washer, with them approximately how they will seat.
5. Find a 1/2" drive socket which is about as large diameter as spring washer. (9/16")
6. Find a piece of rubber hose which will just slip over the valve end, but yet slide thru the socket.
7. Place the socket against the spring washer.
8. Lightly contact the keepers with the rubber hose.
9. Compress the spring while maintaining slight pressure on the hose.
10. Push until you feel/hear a slight "click".

Awesome tool - it's just expensive wherever I find it at though. I'm always up for free! :p

cant see the tool but sounds like thats for changing the springs with the head off.

Thanks. I think you have me going out and spending another $100 I don't have. Cool video and the tol looks super easy to use. I work on cars all day every day and our snap on guy has never told us about this.

Or you could copy that cool a$$ tool they have in the hyundai dealers in japan like i did and just use a lever to pull and re-install the spring....

dang, can't find the pic on my PC :( I wanted to show off LOL LOL

that tool with a the special stuff jay racing sells would make for a pretty sweet dsm specialty tool drawer. right next to the j-b weld duct tape and rtv. :thumb:

That is pretty cool.

What is going on in the video when you were off camera? Were you just trying to get the keepers out of the tool?

How well does it work on stiffer (or double) springs?

throwing the stock springs in a box and digging out the new one and getting the keepers
out of the tool. works great on bouble springs also.....not a problem.

Cool tool.

My valve locks always lock up. . . I can't get the retainers off by just pushing down on them. I always seam to have a more than a few that I need to go in there and use neednose plyers or tweezers and pull off the locks from the around the valve stem. Which means that I need a compressing tool that locks down and gives me a window to reach the locks. Which means I have to have the head of to use a tool that locks down the spring. I can see me bouncing that tool on a valve spring assembly all day long. I'm sure it works perfect on fresher heads. But I end up pulling heads with 100K or more.

the end of the tool i magnetic, it works on old heads with ease......it wont be a problem at all.
and you dont just push down......the hit with the hammer will knock it loose. i have yet to have
a problem using it on a head.

I just purchased the kit from the local snap on guy and they were 99$ haven't used them yet but they do look pretty nice. After showing my co-worker the video he placed an order for both of them as well. I originally thought it was $100 for one but you get a small diameter tool and a larger diameter tool for $99.
