changing turbine wheels on a 20g

I have a hrc 20g in a ported evo3 turbine housing and it surges like crazy in the lower gears. So I have a tdo6h turbine housing and I was wondering if it is possible to just get a tdo6 turbine wheel and put the two together and go? Or will the compressor wheel not fit the turbine wheel?

You can swap to a TD06H turbine wheel as long as you have a housing cut for such a turbine.

I guess I can take it to my local machine shop and have then match the two together. But would doing this solve the surging problem or would I be better getting my stock turbine wheel clipped like 15-20 degrees?

Depends on whether you're looking to add a few hundred RPMs of lag just to cure a surge issue. I've not heard of many complaints of surge from TD05H 20G owners- a good buddy of mine used one for about two years on his daily-driven 2G TSi AWD and it was a great turbo.

I guess maybe its time to go to a 38mm external waste gate that should solve a lot of problems because my problem is caused by the wast gate blowing open right? and this is the hrc super 20g but without the 10cm t3 flanged turbine housing. And I believe it is a tdo6 compressor cover so it points down. would that affect anything? and this is the turbo from forced performance.

The wastegate has nothing to do with compressor surge.

..unless you're mistaking surge for boost creep.

Hmm well here are the symptoms it comes on around 3000 at about 18psi then from their on to about 4500 rpms it gradually climes to 25psi and holds pretty good maybe droping 1 or 2 psi.

thank you for the help I guess i didnt know my symptoms. so I guess i will just deal with the creep until i can get an external wast gate on their. Al tho I ported my 2g manifold today also ported my o2 housing and that seemed to help a lot.
