Ok so my project car broke a couple spot welds on the adjustment part of the steering column. So i decided instead of going and paying someone to weld them back up for me, that i would just use the steering column out of my other project that i plan on completely rebuilding. Anyways i totally forgot that the key must be in and turned to the acc. position to remove the ignition cylinder. Being dedicated to what i had already decided i went and found my smallest cold chisel, a flat head screw driver, and a hammer, and proceeded to beat the hell out of it. well after about 30 minutes I finally got it to turn. I was so happy and had only busted myself in the knuckle once :D. anyways i just wanted to share some pics of the damage i created. I ended up shaking the DOT mandatory bolts loose enough i could take them out by hand so that was kind of nice.

If the inner cylinder is undamaged (the tumblers), you can swap it with the other new column (if you haven't damaged the outer on it) so you can keep your keys. Personally, I haven't seen a DSM that only had one key to operate ign/door/trunk in so long I'm starting to question if that really was a factory option! The high dollar solution is to buy all 4 locks at once from the dealer and go around changing every one of them. Cheap tech says put a sticker or drop of paint to let you know which one goes where.

if you come to Missouri i will prove they came from the factory with one key for all locks but just my talon works like that my 92 eclipse didn't come with keys that's where the newer steering column came from since my original one for the talon broke and was so loose i couldn't steer. how i got those bolts loose was while i was beating the original ignition cylinder out of the eclipse column they came loose on their own. One came so loose i finished it off with my fingers and for the other i put a flat head in between the bolt head and the aluminum bracket and turned it. the car turns easy again, i couldn't be happier but now i remember why it got parked damn overheating P.O.S.

Low mile JDM engine? Those things have cooling passages full of rust from sitting so long. The best solution when buying one is to have the block hot tanked to get all that crap out, second best is to run a high pressure/volume wash through it to try and flush it out. No 15 minute Jiffy Lube flush, more like an hour at high temp AND pressure. If that's not the problem, look for bubbles in the coolant system causing it to flash steam and puke out of your overflow. I ran around in circles with my old car before figuring that out. Run it with the cap off (it will likely puke out the top so don't do it next to the dog pen or anywhere else you don't want antifreeze all over) until it stop puking and stays that way for 15-20 minutes after the last top off. Fill up the overflow close to the hot mark, top off the radiator if it needs a little bit to cover the absolute top, shut off the engine and see if it still overheats. If burping the system doesn't work then you have either a bad water pump (possible) or more likely a blown head gasket. If your oil pan looks like a root beer float inside then you know it's a HG but that's a PITA compared to burping and you'd be changing t-belt with the water pump anyways... Aren't DSM's just... fun?

that makes sense we bought the used engine out of a 92 Mitsubishi that had been sitting at the junkyard for who knows how long and that has been like two or three years ago and its been sitting since then. i flushed it with the car off earlier and here soon after i get done cooking dinner i'm going back out to it and i think ill flush it with the car on. when i flushed it earlier it was spewing that nasty orange sludge so that probably had a lot to do with it. and yes even though all three of my dsm's are broken down I still love them more than any other car. i just wish i could drive one of them or my caddy instead of my moms ugly gold firebird.
