changin front left axle

i am replacin the front left cv axle i was wonderin if the left cv axle is longer than the right cv axle. When i pulled out the cv axle it seperated into two seperate pieces. if im replacin it do i only replace the part that goes to the tire or do i replace both parts including the extension the goes to the trannie. Or is it supposed to be one whole piece.

any ideas please

Hi,

The driver side axle assembly is two different pieces. One is "connected" so to speak to the tranny and a carrier bearing and the other from the carrier bearing to the wheel hub. I dont think you need to replace them both when you are replacing the axle, I see no reason to.

They're different lengths.

When i pulled out the cv axle it seperated into two seperate pieces. if im replacin it do i only replace the part that goes to the tire or do i replace both parts including the extension the goes to the trannie. Or is it supposed to be one whole piece.

There are two pieces. Replace the "part that goes into the tire", and re-use the "extension to the tranny".
