im so pissed:mad: at first my rear passenger brake was making a sound. i first thought it was just the pads, but come to find out my caliper was seized and the piston wouldnt go in when trying to install new pads. the rotor was f*#k up in the process.

so then i went and bought a new rotor, caliper, and pads a couple days ago. installed it and it still makes this loud sound like somethings still scraping against something, while im accelerating and slowing down. i dont think its the caliper this time since its new.

a few hours ago, i took off the pads and looked at it and it seems to have a little uneven wear? and the inner inside part of the rotor is starting to get little grooves on it.

anyone have any idea what this could be??? a friend said that i shouldve put some kinda stuff on the pads when i installed it. could that be it?

No, there is no kind of stuff to put on the pads, but you can use some anti-noise grease on the back. This helps dampen harmonic resonance of the brake assembly. It's usually in little tubes at the parts counter so that while the clerk is looking for your pads you can spot them and say "Hey, maybe I should get some of this stuff."

But this kind of noise is not usually described as a "scraping sound." After you drive a bit, stop and feel your rear wheels. Are they about the same temperature? If one is warmer it could mean your pads are dragging excessively. The typical cause is a seized caliper which you took care of. Other causes are a blockage in the brake line or the caliper is not moving freely on the guide pins. Be sure they are well lubed with high-temp grease.

the guide pin was well lubed when i got it. how would the blockage in the brake line cause this?

basiclly the brake line starts to disentegrate from the inside out. then it acts like a one way valve and your brakes dont pull back the way they should.

the grease should be used on the caliper slides, the back of the pads, and in the slides in the bracket where the ends of the pad slide

What about the shims? When I didn't have any on them, I had some bad scraping noise when I was braking or at low speeds.

Check the anti-rattle clips too. If they look old and worn replace them. I had an embarrassing sqeauking noise coming from the wheel and it turned out to be the anti-rattle clip rubbing on the back side of the rotor. The clip was worn and bent and wouldn't stay in it's correct position on the caliper bracket.

Is the dust shield bent and hitting the rotor? Simple enough fix that I have overlooked before.

how does the shims look like? what you had sounds like mine.

ill have to check the dust shield and anti-rattle clips

All of the above are great suggestions. However, there is something else. There is something you can put on the pads instead of grease. It's called DISC BRAKE QUIET.Now there's 3 different kinds. One comes in a spray and you spray it on the rotor. It looks like a metallic coating/chrome paint of sorts. Don't get this one,It sucks. The other one also comes in a spray, but it's sprayed on the back plate of the pad and forms a sticky film. This allows the pad to stick to the piston and retracts better and also helps with dapening vibrations which are usally a culprit with squeeking and such. This one works OK. The 3rd one comes in a tube, kinda like elmers glue. It's made by CRC and it's basicly red goop. Here's the lowdown basicly; Forms a water resistant, high temperature film that instantly absorbs noise and quiets disc brake squeaks and squeals.
Easy to apply to new or previously installed pads
Disc Brake Quiet - 118 ml - 75016
Aerosol - 75017

This is the one you want. What we do at work is cook this shit with a heat lamp for about 15 minutes so it stick really nice to the pad. when it cools off, slap em in. Now I'm not saying this is your problem, But if you didn't do it,you should have. Everyone should do this step. Good luck with it.
