Change cams, but not screw with timing is it possible

I am doing my cams and springs, but forsome reason i suck at do timing on our cars. I always get the stupid balance shaft out of phase or something so im wondering since i alreay have adjustable cam gears on my stock cams, can i jsut zip tie the belt to the gears and pull that to the side and then put them on new cams when installed?

This link is exactly what you need. I've done this myself, it works great. For the belt tensioner tool, take your battery hold down rod and continue threading it with a 8mmx1.25 so that is long enough. Good luck.
