Hi everyone,

I am going to be building my own sealed catch can setup for my car. I have researched this a lot but can't come to a solid conclusion on what type of filtration to put inside of it. Most of everything I read points towards stainless steel scrubber pads, but some say they still degrade over time and risk a small piece braking off and getting sucked into the turbo. I have also read that a few people use small zinc coated chain so there is no chance of anything getting sucked into the intake pipe. What are the general thoughts on this? Has anyone ever actually had a problem with the stainless steel wool? Any other recomendations or suggestions would also greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Well if you are making a "sealed" can, I don't think adding foreign objects, especially wool, would be a good idea. You would not be able to check on the contents or replace the wool.

I'm no Calan, and he obviously knows all the proper functions and tricks to a catch can (Hence why I own a Calan Can), but before his can I used a Universal Greddy one, and added a baffle in the top with a piece of sheet aluminum.

Think of it like oil pan baffles/traps. The idea is to displace particles (oil) by altering airflow. Something as simple as an angled sheet of aluminum in between your inlet/outlet ports will work better than steel wool.

This is the best example I can find. Inlets/Outlets are seperated by that angled piece. Air can easily make a 180* turn, while oil and other condensing gases cannot.

I just put baffles in my catch can. Inlet/outlet on opposite sides near the top, inlet baffle curves down, outlet baffle curves up. After two track days there was the usual oily water inside the can but no liquid from the outlet hose.

I've got a -10AN from the stock VC location, -6AN from the old PCV spot, and -12 hose out of the can.
