CF hood install, now won't latch all the way

As stated today I installed my CF hood and ran into a problem. The hood will latch,( like you have to pull the hood release). But It will not latch all the way. There is nothing interfering with the hood BTW.
It almost feels like the latch itself needs to come up a bit for it to latch all the way... Has anybody had the same problem with a hood??

I have a 2g and I ran into a similar problem with a VIS Evo hood. It would catch on the safety latch, but would not completely latch. I applied a good amount of strength and it just would not catch. It seemed if I could raise the latching mechanism up, it would have been ok. In the end I just removed the entire hood latch assembly. I did that because I was going to use hood pins no matter what, so I wasn't terribly concerned on making it work.
Also, before I purchased the VIS Evo hood. I did have a VIS stock hood and that one latched perfectly. Maybe I just got a mis-shaped hood, but it seemed fine. Good luck on getting it to work.

Have you played with the hood adjustment "knobs" yet? I know you at least have the outer 2 (seen in post #4 of your other thread, 1st picture, black rubber thing with the arrow). You might also have the inner two. Try screwing them in further and it might latch better.

Yes sir I have checked the rubber things. The one on the left side was up a lil bit, I screwed it down all the way. That is not the case in this situation.

I'm damm sure it's the latch assembly. I'm going to try to get the latch Assembly to go further upward..

The rubber things should only be used to adjust the height of the hood when it is latched. If you change those too much you might be able to get the hood to latch, but then your gaps will be off. What you need to do is adjust the hood latch itself. Loosen the bolts that hold it to the car and you should be able to move it around. I am not entirely sure what you are saying, but you should have no problem adjusting the latch. If you move the latch all the way and are still not happy with how it is shutting, pull the latch off and ream the holes a little bit more to give you some extra 'wiggle-room'.

I might try that before or after I get it to work or not my way first..

Today I tried moving the assembly up and down today, No luck....

I also adjusted the bottom part of the hood hinges themselves, theres four bolts then adjust. No luck...

I think I'll drill some holes below where the bolts go now for the latch assembly, and see if that won't be enough to make it sit perfectly..In simple terms drill new mounting holes for the latch ssembly...

UPDATE: I got the hood to come down a little bit. I moved the left side of the latch down...It does latch all the way, only sits kind of high on the left side yet..I will be getting hood pins tomarrow..I hate seeing a CF hood get holes put in it, but I have too..

If I end up a year from now wanting to sell the hood, will the pins/holes in the hood bring down the value of the hood??

I bought my 2g hood used and the value seemed unafected by what I paid. The problem installing it was the face that your lining up holes with hood pins rather than hood pins with holes. Not as easy as you d think . I had to file my latch holes significantly and move it and play with it untill the hood would close.

The hood closes and latches fine...No problems with that...


The problem is that the hood sits a tad bit too high around the headlight area's. Especially on the left side wich is more obvious, of course

most carbon fiber hoods come warped so most of them have a fitting defect.

This actually makes me kinda double think about getting a CF hood. Friend had a 240 and ran into a very similar problem and ended up returning it for a Fiber Glass hood.

Cf hoods are great don't get me wrong, but i'm thinking either you get a good one or there is fitting problems. It's probly a 50/ 50 chance really..

Ohh and I wish I could return and get fiberglass, but it came off of my parts car, so I'm stuck with this hood..

And getting a CF hood is becoming a great learning experiance I must say..Plus a huge burden.. SM:

hood pins are installed and is now all good..
