so i installed my cf hood today and it is from prostreet and it looks good and fits decently well. the only thing i have noticed that seems to be a problem is that when i pop my hood, it pops fine, but i can just pull up on the hood and i dont have to move the lever to open it. this seems like a bad thing to me. is there something i need to do? should i not even worry? im getting hood pins in a few weeks but right now i gotta drive the car.

Honestly I wouldn't run a cf hood without some sort of a hoodpin or a latch to keep it down.
If it opens "by hand" while it's shut definately get pins. There's to many horror stories floating around on tuners to not get em.
:)

a buddy of mine did this and he lost his windshield and hood and almost killed himself when the hood flew open driving down the street.

ok so stupid question... u guys just drive around with no security for ur engine bay? is there a way to keep it locked if the latch doesn't work to protect it from theft?

the thing uses the stock latch and it closes fine, only thing is, when i pop the hood, i dont have to move the lever over to open the hood. i adjusted the latch a little bit and now it seems to work, but im going to get hood pins in about 2 hours anyway.

Doesntm ater i fthe latch worksif it loosens from the hood itself. It could happen as well and hterefore I would never run without hoodpins. I had mine closed at first hatch..not all the way down...but as when you pop the hood from inside...It flew wide open in 30MPh and smashed my windshield and cracked the hood...SO GET HOODPINS!!!!!!

im trying to find a place that has the pins in stock and that will install them. i dont trust myself with a drill on my hood. the stock latch seems to be good though... i hit 120 coming home this morning after getting my car running again and it didnt budge.

I have a VIS CF hood and when i pop the hood, i still have to lift the lever to lift it. it hooks into the skeleton of the hood without a problem. I actually had popped the hood one day to do some work and ended up not doing anything but forgot to push it back down and ended up driving around and when i got home i found that it was still popped, but it never shook or rattled... It might just be the brand of CF hood...

where did you get the hood from? Seems like a cheap knock off or something for not fitting well.

I don't think that you would really benefit from 4 hood pins unless you removed the hinges in the rear. The concern about a hood flying up during high speed driving is due to the front of the hood comming up and the back contacting the windshield. I would be willing to bet that most people who had a hood fly up on them still had the hinges intact. I wouldn't reccomend removing the hinges because it would be a PITA to ever open up your hood, I mean you would need 2 people and somewhere to set it and you would need to worry about damaging it.
JiveMasterT you could install the pins yourself, it's just that you have to take your time and get everything to fit correctly. I honesly spent over an hour installing mine so as not to ruin my hood. I worked my way from the bottom of the hood to the top and once the holes were totally drilled I played around opening up the holes where it was needed. Installing hood pins is just like anything else, as long as you set a plan and don't try to rush it you will be fine.

Whats your thoughts on four hood pins?

two front, two rear.

i dont care for looks as per i do allot of highspeed highway driving daily.

thoughts?

Overkill, two are fine.

4 Hood pins is not really overkill. My buddy has a Notch Back Stang with a Fiber Glass Cowel hood. Instead of hinges he has the Key Lock type hood pin, in the front he has the normal style pin. He can completly remove his hood within seconds. For function. Might look tacky. But form of function is better than looks I say.

I can see your point about the 4 hood pins on a race car, but the downfall that I was pointing out was the fact that since the hinges are not there it would be very difficult to remove the hood w/o 2 people. I mean say something happens and you pull over on the side of the road to "pop the hood" and check things out, if you have 4 hood pins you are kind of screwed, and then you need a place to leave the hood while you work on the engine. That is just my viewpoint on the issue. But I still stick by what I said before, unless you decide that you want to remove the hood totally everytime you need to get at something in the engine compartment 4 hood pins would not be practical. My take on the 4 hood pin question was if it would greatly reduce the risk having the hood fly off at high rates of speed? And I don't believe the rear pins would really make all that much of a difference as opposed to the front pins. If those front pins let loose then the hood is gonna go no matter what, actually thinking about it you are probably better off with the hinges, having pins in the rear would probably just crack the hood and possibly send it flying. I mean that air has a lot of leverage in the front and I don't think the pins in the rear would do much good if it decided that it wants to take off.

The make locking hood pins that use one of the round keys to unlock them.
