CF doors thoughts

Things to think about. I have a set on my eclipse and here are some problems I've ran across (but I dont mind these things)

1. Fitment will be good, however there will more than likely be wind noise.

2. I dunno if it was the people who installed my doors or not, but if you keep
your stock glass they won't seal properly...like there will be a gap. They
wobble a little bit. I suggest converting it to manual windows and using
lexan/speedglass.

3. For some reason my doors like to hold water. No big deal to me cause I
undo the lower rubber seal to let the water out.

4. If people slam the door/close the door using the door handle, that portion
will start to crack. Not a bad one...sorta like the ones on CF hoods.

Pluses:

1. They are definitely unique. Nobody else around here has ever seen them. I
always get people asking me if they are really CF.

2. The weight savings is pretty substantial. I could pick up 1 CF door using
only a finger to lift it. Took both arms to move the stock door.

3. Because a lot of stuff will be removed/out of the way, it makes working on
your door extremely easy. I can disassemble my door to the door handle in
5 mins.

I think they would be more benifitial to a track car than a DD. Don't get me wrong...I love them on my Eclipse, but I won't be using them on my Talon. Hope this helps!

thinking of finishing off my red/carbon theme for the car.. thoughts??
(no, will not be painting)

bro I think your car would look freakin SICK with thos doors....wit all the carbon fiber on your car....it'll look bad a$$....I wanna do the same thing but it jz cost to much for the doors $1k...maybe in the near future, like next year hahahaha.

Incase no one wants to look at my profile pics.. car has CF hood, fenders, hatch, turbo wing, and exhaust heat sheild already. Should flow good. So I think the doors will be the last extirior cf parts.. oh and time attack racing hart CRs (black with red stripe) red and black all the way baby!!!!

If it is a street car and you have CF doors, without the beam in the door you'd be crushed if you get hit by a car. The only time I'd ever get CF doors on a street car was if I had a roll cage/bar with a side beam bar. But if you do that, then the weight of the roll cage will negate whatever weight you save by having CF doors... unless you want them for looks and not to save weight.

If appearance is the goal, try to find someone that'll put a carbon overlay on the doors that way you can maintain the structural integrity of the OEM door. Here's a DSM with a carbon roof, you get the idea...

Heres what a GS-T looks like after a 60mph t-bone to the driverside OE door... Do as Deepak suggested and do CF vinyl wrap on the doors if its cosmetic and run RS (black) door handles so you don't have red ones.
Personally I like the way CF looks but this is one thing I could never justify installing on a DD, even the weight savings is minimal since the majority of the weight in the door is the glass and window mechanism.

I have a mostly bare 2g door here that I just weighed and it comes in at 48 pounds, >80 pound weight savings is very substantial in my book. It's something I'd love to do but can't bring myself to do it.... I know I would never be happy with the fit and finish. It's gonna happen someday though...

Definetly go with overlay doors if your looking for looks

I bought my doors from GT Fabrications and their incredibly light, but i fear for the future about other people slamming the doors, leaning on it, or using it as support when getting out of the car

That is an Avenger. It is built on the same platform as the 2gs. I has the hood and bumper I wanted on Avenger before it got t-boned. Notice the 2gb high rise? corection: I do not like that Camero style hood I wanted the viper style.

Op if you plan to.drive on the road get an overlay. If you plan to trailer then get the doors.
