Well picked up the 1g today. Got it home, started going through it to see what it is that's causing 0 compression on all 4 cylinders. Coil pack seems a little on the bad side. Don't have an ohmmeter yet but picking one up after din din. It cranks, but doesn't start. When looking in the cylinders, I get yellow fire, instead of blue... am I supposed to get blue fire? LOL There's oil on the bottom of the bay... alot. But when turning the crank by hand, no noises of metal or anything. Timing is almost dead on. The crank pulley is missing a part (chipped off.) Wires seem to be new. Plugs are ok. I plan on taking the VC off to inspect the head from above. Also, when cranking it'll crank for a few, then pop or backfire from the exhaust. Should I take time and drain the oil and look for metal if I don't hear anything while turning the crank by hand? What's your advice?

OMG you suck i was going to buy that car well from the sounds of his post i figured it needed a timing belt and valves. make sure your plug wires are in the correct cylinders. and taking a look at the oil wouldnt be a bad idea and cut open the filter to see what goods it might hold. that is the talon with carbon fiber hood from granite city right.

yes that's it. I bought it :) LOL It's in good hands don't worry. I own a 2g AWD Talon as well for the drag car! :hellyeah:

I'm replacing all timing components and head gasket and studs with an MLS unit and ARP's with gates blue belt. Just waiting for STM to ship them out. I have an extra head if it comes down to it. Just want opinions on what to do. Was told it could be ignition problems with the coil pack. Was told a bad coil pack can cause 0 compression as well as power transister? I have a thread on here and Mitsu-media about the car. Go on ahead and check them out for more pictures.

Wait, wait, wait... You have zero compression and you want to blame it on the coil pack or power transistor? Think hard about this for a second: what part of a compression test has anything whatsoever to do with the coil pack or power transistor? Did you even run a compression test or are you assuming it has zero compression because it doesn't start?

If you ran a compression test, the best way to find out why you have zero compression is to perform a leak down test. Do that and post back: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/338152-compression-leak-down-testing.html

If it has compression and you are trying to diagnose a no-start, here's a good place to begin: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/217951-how-diagnose-no-start.html

Yeah it's stupid. I was told to do so by a friend of mine, Chris Durr, who also changed his mind on it. Leak down test is fine and compression test was done before and after the leak down test.

correction and clarification
pistons are not moving if the cylinders are sealing with 0 compression thats my guess

There would have to be an awful lot of damage for the crank to turn freely and the pistons seized.

I still don't get how you have zero compression but little to no cylinder leakage.

If your tearing it down to do headgasket, might as well just wait until you can see inside the heart of the beast.

take a long metal rod of some sort stick it in a spark plug hole and crank th engine quick way to find out or if you have a friend have him look in the hole while you crank it ha no

Pistons are moving when cranking. There's nothing wrong with the bottom end of the car. Had the oil pan off and no metals at all. Everything is tight and in good shape. Tomorrow I'll be taking the head off and going from there. I've got it narrowed down to valves being bent so new head it is.

Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't a leakdown test tell you if your valves are bent? Usually by air escaping from either the intake or exhaust valves when they are supposed to be closed.

A reverse leakdown would ;)

Sounds like your valves kissed the pistons.

Pull the engine... Compression is compression, if you don't have it, time for a rebuild.

It really IS that simple.

Yeah but even with a blown motor you would still get compression

I just pulled the valve cover and found no rockers on the intake side. They're there, just not where you want them to be.

Here are a few pictures I took.
This is the one right after I took the VC off. No rockers on intake side. I was told by PO that it could be his fault when he replaced the lifters with revised units, that he didn't take the cam out to do so.

These are the lifters. Some of gashes on the side of the bearing and one has a crack across it

just talked to a guy said if someone put evo cams in the valves wont close all the way but if you removed the rocker arms to do the leak down test it seals check the cams

Well actually did some work. Here are some resulting pictures.

All intake valves are bent as I suspected.

Block still seems good. But will go further in to see. Removing oil pan later on.

grrr i wanted that car

Well too bad. I have it, not you :rocks: LOL At least I'm giving updates on GDSM for you! You're welcome to come by and see it whenever bro. Just shoot me a PM on there if you want... If that's even you on GDSM! LOL

I wanna see what the car looks like. Picture por favor.

Check out the other thread. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/399302-im-club-1g-2g-awd-club.html

What caused the bent valves? Improper timing?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

Yeah. Improper timing was the cause and the cam caps were not torque'd to spec.
