catch can routing

I know there is a thread similar to this one but not exactly. Do you think the way I have it routed in the pic is best or should I not have it plumbed into the intake mani and just loop it throught the valve cover?

I'd say don't route it back to the intake without some type of PCV or check-valve in the tubing carrying it to the intake manifold or it will be blowing boost into your catch can....thereby inflating the crankcase with boost pressure.
 
i would cap the intake manifold and just run the two line from the valve cover to the catch can, with a filter on the catch can. Remove the pcv valve from the valve cover. Some people use 2 to 3 sealed catch cans and check valves to acheive a vacum. It depends what your looking for. I just use a catch can with a filter and run the 2 vents off the the valve cover to the catchcan and cap off ever thing else. My motor builder said that would be fine.
 
The routing diagram is good, but don't route it to the intake, eliminate that part and just stick to the vc-to catch can-to pcv route.
 
I like the idea taking the intake manifold out of the system, less chance of boost leaks. If i were to go for a vacum effect on the valve cover I would come up with a way to use the exhaust in stead of the intake. I was thinking if a person ran 2 braided lines from the valve cover to a sealed catchcan, from the catchcan to the exhaust pipe somewhere near the back. it would create a vacum. I don't think u would need the catch can if u routed the lines right,
 
anybody think it could work?

A lot of domestic guys run both valve covers into the headers, but you cant do it if you have cats (which you probably dont) and it pulls ALOOOOT of vacuum

Maybe if I used a PCV valve inline with the intake manifold? Then it would shut off flow to the catch can under boost.

1st idea loses vacuum assist under boost.
2nd idea loses vacuum assist under boost and at part throttle.
I never saw the need yet to route it any different than stock.

Do you think simply putting an inline fuel filter in between the valve cover and intake is the best idea? Vacuum wise, and/or just all-around?

I think its an ok way of preventing oil from getting into the intercooler, I personally prefer not to. I routed the line so it drained back into the valve cover as much as possible, a longer line and right after the valve cover go up slighly with the the line and then bring it down to the intake.

A line to the intake pre-turbo like the stock setup...but then you have to have two catch cans or you will suck oil in the turbo...

Yeah, but what exactly would you need vaccum for under boost? I've come up with another one that I think could work

the reason i went to a catch can was to get rid of the pcv valve because it leaked when i did a boost leak test. We don't have any emmisions tests where I live.

In that case just put a check valve in line before the intake manifold, No more Boost leak,you still want the PCV on the valve cover it acts a a metering valve also...
 
I think i'll go with this, that way I wont have to use two catch cans.

I'm doing something very similar to what you're building on my cars. I live across the street from a fabrication shop that builds metal stairs and handrails, so they have tons of scrap aluminum lying around that I can "borrow".

That ashtray deal was our creation the night before the races at 1am. We literally walked around Walmark looking for the cheapest thing with a removable lid that could be turned into a catch can. The track requires a catch can if your PCV system is not recirculated, but they never gave a spec on what it had to be made of.

That was over 2 years ago, and it's still working perfectly to this day!
