Carbon Fiber Hood

Anyone have any experience with this hood or this brand of carbon fiber hood?

One of the most common comapny to make CF stuff. I would say they make quality stuff that weighs less than the OEM parts.

I'm in the same boat. I want a CF hood and I know the oem one is cleaner but I want some heat venting advantages.

I wanna see this hood on our cars in person.

Just go through a vendor that carries CF parts.

I laugh when I see a low price but the shipping is highly marked up to make up the cost for unsuspecting buyers . Shouldn't cost much more than $50-$75 to ship IMO.

I have purchased both the OEM CF Vis hood and the Evo Style Vis hood for my 2g. Both have been good products, both have seen one winter in montana with no ill effects. The only warning I will give is do not fight the hood, if its not closing right, dont try to force it. I learned that you are better off purchasing hood pins then trying to use the OE hood latch after I cracked my OEM CF hood trying to get it to close. I still have it and the cracks are small / not getting worse but I learned my lesson and purchased the low profile latches when I got the Evo style hood, my purchase too was in an attempt to vent heat and it seems to do a very good job when sitting @ idle. I can't confirm when moving but on a hot day you can see the heat rise out of the hood.

Dont be afraid of cutting your hood to install the low profile latches. I almost had a heart attack when I took the dremel to my brand new hood, but I was patient and took my time and it turned out really well. The dremel was the perfect tool for the job. I do suggest taping around your work area to avoid splintering of the clear coat though.

I made my purchases through Deft racing and thought they did a fine job for what its worth.

This is usually done so ebay doesn't get as much out of the sale. Ebay charges a percentage of the buy it now or auction price, not on the shipping costs.

Thanks for the advice. Do you have a link to the specific low profile latches your talking about as that does seem like the way to go. The extra ventilation is great, but i also need some more clearance as i have added two AN fittings to the top of my valve cover for my new crankcase ventilation setup.

vis has been around for awhile. had friends and my own personal use. the clear turns yellow and sometimes there quality isnt that great. usually a hit and miss with them. i would make sure you contact the seller and find out the warranty on it. also ask if the edges are rolled or not, you want rolled.

I have seen this particular hood in person and liked it. I had a VIS hood on anther car of mine, and it vented very well. My only complaint was support (granted, this was back in 2007, and the hood was already a few years old by then, so they may have redesigned the support by now). You couldn't push on the hood anywhere without bending the thing because there was nearly zero support what so ever. This led to LOTS of cracking. It is so bad that I will literally have to replace the hood when my build is done. Some cracks are small, some are very deep now. Likewise, some are very short in length, and some stretch almost a foot in length. It looks very ugly.

However, other than that, the clear coat held up very well. I parked it out in the sun daily, and there's only a few small sports that the clear coat is fading/gone.

With that said, I would probably buy one again if no supporting vendor had the style I wanted, if they've redesigned the hoods to give a little more support, because the clear coat lasts forever (in my environment).

I had good luck with the VIS on my old Talon. I had it on for 4 years and it never faded or yellowed. You have to be careful when closing them, cause they can crack near the very front of the hood.

I was thinking of trying to find a hood with vents for my 1g, but its my daily and I dont really want watter getting in there from snow or rain, especially beacuse Its not in a garage. Am I just being a sissy lala, or will it be okay?

Edges are smooth rolled edges, so that's good, carbon fiber is AA quality. It says in auction that it has new UV that won't fade, but i contacted them anyway to ask about yellowing and what kind of warranty i would receive with the hood. I wish the guy that was doing the carbon hoods and trunks here on the forum made a hood like this one, if he did i'd buy from him seeing as how he has a good relationship with the forum and it's members.

Thats good info, especially if you're buying the hood in hopes of dropping engine bay temperatures.

Heres a picture of the hood popped open on my buddies 2ga Talon, if you looke closely the main vent is the only functional one and the sides are fo'show.

VIS are good quality. That name say's it all. Anything VIS you don't need to trip. Fitment is dead on and they have been in the carbon fiber game for a very long time.

Hard to tell that the sides are for looks but i'll take your word for it. What front bumper and side skirts are on that car? I really don't need the sides to be functional just the main one is fine.
