Saskatoon,
I own an 1984 Dodge D50 with a carb'd sohc 4g63 and a 4spd manual, i was wondering if i could swap a dohc turbo head and etc. onto my original block? or would it be easier and more worth my time to build up an already turbocharged engine?

What other performance upgrades could i do with this little beast?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

p.s. pics coming soon

I would swap the whole motor and wiring harness.

Are you sure it is a SOHC 4G63, and not one of the other 4G variants?

You have a 4G63 block, but the internals are different as well as the head. Find a donor car (most likely an old laser rs) 6 bolt motor and get the 5 speed transmission out of a mighty max with the 2.0L G63B.

Surf around and gather information, but simply put, you should start with a 4G63 turbo motor, preferrably one in good repair.

Haha! Wish it was mine. And yes, I bet it does! That's just an example of one of these swaps done right.

You have a G64B...similar to a 4G64. You could build a 2.3L stroker.

No it is a 4g63 beacause i talked to the guy who rebuilt the engine before i bought it and it's stamped on the hood
The sohc 4g63 was only offered in Canada in the d50

my question is would an automatic transmission from a d50 handle the horsepower and torque produced by the 4g63t? and why wouldn't i be able to use the 4 speed i already have?

i've read some forums talking about a hybrid starion-conquest/ d50 transmission as well, and Dave Buchsurs powerglide adaptor plate, would any of these be worth trying?

The seemingly simplest and best documented route is to use a 4G63t with a tranny out of a 2.0L Ram 50 or Mighty max. The G63B and the 4G63 blocks should have the same bolt pattern as far as mounting up to the transmission, but the only trucks sold in the US with 5 spds that will bolt up were the G63B Ram 50s and the 2.0L Mighty Max pickups. You COULD use your 4 spd, but you'd likely run out of gears pretty quick and it may not be as strong. If indeed you have a 4G63 block, then start looking for a donor 6 bolt DSM. Might as well use as much of what you have until it breaks, THEN start fishing for better alternatives.
