so I get home from work tonight, pull up to the garage and turn the car off to clean stuff out quick. Clean the car out, pull it over to where I park it and turn the key off and pull them out...but now the cars still running!! I turn it off by pulling the fuse for the engine.

what would be causing it? I'm assuming that it would have to do with something in the ignition.

by the way, the car is COMPLETELY stock...no turbo timer or anything...and only 64k miles. any help would be appreciated!!! thanks

There is nothing but the ignition switch That would cause that.

Does the car start up fine?

ya, it seems to start fine, it just doesn't shut off, so I pull the engine fuse. But the indicator lights stay on on the car.

I dont think the solenoid would have anything to do with that, but i could be wrong! Try jiggling your key in the switch and see if that does anything.

alright, I'll go start it again(once it stops raining) and try it. Hopefully it'll shut off fine.

My bet it is your ignition switch, but good luck and let me know what you find out.

alright I will thanks. you know how hard it is to change the ignition switch? is it going to change what key my car is keyed for?

Ignition switchs are pretty pricy so i would try to find a used one at a junk yard to see if that fixes it first. And as far as mating a key with your car i have no idea how that goes. You might be able to get a new ignition switch for your key. Also there not that bad to change!

I've been trying to find a link on changing them, but I can't find one anywhere...you know where I can find instructions???? and advance auto parts and autozone has ignition switches for around 40

It sounds like your ignition switch, it sounds like its stuck in the "run" position. Try this simple test: After removing your key let the car run and pull the fuse to cut the engine. Now put the fuse back in, do your accessories still run (like your key was turned to the "run" position)? If yes, then your switch is stuck and you need a new one.

You will not need a new key. Your ignition lock cylinder matches your key and is a mechanical part. Your ignition switch is an electronic switch that is a generic part, not key specific. Replacing is pretty easy on a 1g, but I have no experience with a 2g.

alright, all I gotta do now is fiqure out how to change it!! LOL I've never done one...always stuff in the engine area...any one have a link on how to change them?

alright, so I put the new ignition switch in, didn't do a darn thing. I'm thinking maybe the ignition control module?? anyone else have any ideas??

ya it wasn't the ignition switch. previous owner had wired the remote power wire for a sub, he had installed before he sold it to me, to the fuse box...and just wrapped it around the fuse for the gauge display....I'm guessing there was a short somewhere in that wire or something and it was causing problems with the wiring harness, cause soon as I took that wire off, it started working fine. thanks for the help though guys!!

Haha, sorry, but I love that.
At least you fixed it.
Almost like when my old car started on me, when I was under the hood, and wouldnt turn off.
But I was shorting a wire, which caused the car to start.

yah, Im thinking that power wire for the amp had to be shorting out somewhere...RIGHT by the wiring harness, causing power to keep flowing into the wiring harness from that power cable...or something like that....all I know, is it's been working right all evening, so I hope thats all it was!!
