i have a 97 gst and today it would not turn off this morning! i turned the key and took it out like normal except this time the car stayed running rather than shutting off. the cd player and electronics shut off but the engine and dash lights like the battery light stay lit. i have never seen anything like this but i need a quick solution since it is draining my battery and i hate popping my car into gear to kill the engine. is this a common dsm problem? help please

stop popping it into gear to kill it.
i don't know why it's doing that, but instead, pull a fuse to the ignition or something. popping it in gear to kill it will take it's toll on your trans.

i dont have a turbo timer. the car is near stock. what fuse do i pull in the meantime? can anyone offer a suggestion to fix this problem?

everything is stock, no aftermarket car alarm. i unplugged the engine fuse to turn it off this time but the dash lights still stay lit, the same lights that are lit when your key is turned to the first position. this is really frustrating and its only a matter of time before my battery is dead. anyone else have any ideas or heard of this before?

i guess the question is, do you have a turbo timer? because thats its purpose, leave the car on and let the oil cool so it doesnt kill your turbo

Obviously I have a turbo timer. I know that is what they do, or I would not have even mentioned it.

It sounds like something in the ignition.

I don't think it would be anything in the ignition because he does get a response when he turns the car off. He said that the radio does turn off so I'm assuming that the contact there is working. Maybe a short somewhere in your electrical system. ECU?

Might be a stuck Relay somewhere. Im not sure on electrical for this situation. but what I would do is check the wires under the steering wheel. I had a SMILAR problem. someone put a alarm on my accord and took it out cause it would blink the lights for some stupid reason. and appon removel, they left some of the wiring. and I still dont know how I turned it on or off. but it had something to do with the Trunk lock turning it on and off.
