Ok so I was driving my car up to flag and after about fifty miles it started to miss real bad threw a cel then died pulled over everything looks normal get in she fires up and finishes the drive I get there shut the car off then decide to go get somethin to eat start the car no cel go to drive back fifty miles starts to miss not as bad threw cel again stopped to get something to eat start the car no more cel anyone have any idea why it does this

Plugs and wires are brand new the problem with scanning it is as soon as I shut the car off and restart it the light is gone will the scanner still read the codes

you're gonna have to have a scanner with you next time that happens. When it starts studdering pull over and scan it. just make sure you don't turn off the ignition

It's a random cylinder misfire. Shutting the car off resets it and allows the cylinder to fire again. That's why it runs fine after the restart.

Almost all CEL codes are stored in the ECU with or without the light being on. Only way to get codes cleared from ECU is to remove power from ECU by disconnecting negative battery cable.

Believe there is 1 maybe 2 codes that aren't stored. Not sure of them off top of my head.

Sorry another way to clear them is with any scanner or device plugged into your OBD port.

I had a problem like this, check your battery terminals. Make sure the rod that you put the cables on is tight an still making proper connection.

What my car did: Drove normal but every so often the cel would come on and the car would miss/buck hard until you took your foot off of the gas. Once I did that it would drive completely normal again. Turns out the negative terminal rod had come loose. I replaced the terminals and the car runs great.

Go to Autozone or one of the other parts stores and they should be able to check the codes for free.

I've had this problem a few times and It's usually something wrong with the coil pack. I also have an intermittent wire somewhere between the Cam Sensor and the ECU. Usually moving the bundle of wires cures it.

Easiest thing you could do would be to simply just get the code checked. Though, you already have a good idea what it could be and how to fix it. I keep a scanner in my car, sits right behind my drivers seat on the floor board. It helps to know what code your car is throwing when it does.

Start off with checking your plugs. If plugs are fine check wires and coil. It would be allot easier if you had a logger. I have a logger but rarely use it because i work in a shop that specializes in Mistu and Isuzu. So i can easily hook up a tool and watch as i throttle to see which cylinder is misfiring. If its not plugs wire or a coil I am willing to9 bet money you have an intermitent injector problem, I have seen that a few times here in a shop. Just sucks chasing it down.

Hey man glad you posted this... I'm having a simular issue. I tried to log it however when I was connected to my laptop it didn't throw cel??? mine happens when I'm going around 60-75mph when i let of throttle it goes away but comes back shortly after getting back to speed. see what others posted I will check my plugs and get new wires and work it from there I will post what I learn from that within the next couple days.
