I drive 75 miles one way to work. In the morning I start the car and let it warm up for 10 minutes. While it warms up the car surges and once it warms up the surging stops.

After driving for a while 45min, the car will start to miss like a bad wire or plug. Then the car will loose power and the check engine light will come on. The boost gauge will show boost at like 5 psi. When this happens I pop in the clutch rev the engine and the problem goes away for a while. Then it will come back. Driving around town it will not do this a all. Any ides what would cause this. I have a 91 talon completely stock. Plugs and wires where changed about 15000 miles ago. I did not use the ngks or the platnum plugs.

I started having this problem around January.

I would personally start with checking my fuel supply. Your fuel pump could be going out!
Next time you are driving, try to listen and see if your fuel pump is exceptionally loud!

The exact same thing happend to me on my 90 Eclipse.

You should be using an ngk bpr6es or bpr7es.

I have diagnosed a few situations like this.

Sometimes a bad catalytic convertor will heat up and block exhaust flow. The way to test this is to make a back pressure gauge, you need a male 1 inch pipe thread(same as your o2 sensor), then rig up a barbed fitting and a hose with a pressure gauge on it, you should be able to make one for about 25-30 bucks at your local hardware store.

Sometimes ignition coils with fail as they heat up and cause a misfire on two cylinders, to check this you need to check spank intensity on all of your cylinders after it runs poorly. You will need a spark plug tester that can be had at a autoparts store. The spak should be able to jump about 1/2 an inch.

Also fuel pumps can do this, the best way I have of testing these requires a lab scope and I don't have any at home tips for this.

Hope this helps.

I had a bad transistor pack that caused symptoms like yours. I think it was running on 2 cylinders when it was acting up. Check that.

Edit: It liked to do it when it was warm and steadily cruising. Is yours the same?

Besides, of what was being said above, try and do a boost leak test, after you drive for 1 hour or more. I had a boost leak on the comp. housing and it was showing after a 25-30 minutes of driving, NOT before that. I guess it had to get really hot. Try and see.

Yesterday when I was driving home the car ran fine. This morning when driving to work I had no issues. This problem is hard to diagnose because I cant stop on the way to work to troubleshoot the problem. I'm going to start with the fuel filter this weekend and see what happens. I will also do a boost leak check. Ill also do a search on the transistor pack and check that. Thanks for the help.

It's actually rather simple I had the same problem on my 94 Mistsubishi Ended up being nothing more than extremely dirty fuel injectors add fuel injector cleaner for the next 4 tank fills and if you notice a difference you'll know the answer also use High tess fuel. Should clean it right up just make sure to put fuel injector cleaner in before you fill the tanks and ocatain boost should help too. Thats excatly what I did and avoided spending a shit load for someon to look at and clean my fuel injectors. Will be a quick fix.
