i recently put a boost controller on my car and its set for 13 psi. i have an evo 3 engine with the yellow top 510's and the 16g. only some times under full throttle itlll studder. but quater throttle and half it pulls fine. i turned the boost back down to9 and it still does it. i got a logger but the cable was still in my friends car and i forgot to grab it. any ideas?

Check your plugs and wires. If they are old they need to be replaced.

just wondering - what if plugs and wires are good? any other suggestions?

A friend of mine had the same problem and he changed his fuel filter and it solved the problem. It would only jump/stutter when he got on it.

plugs and wires were teh first things i did when i got the car. all the intercooling pipe is fine. itll blow a cloud of black smoke occasionally if i get on it in first and it stutters so its not lean. ne other opinions?

When tuning my car at first, it would stutter at WOT because it was way too rich, you might want to get an adj. FPR and a new filter wouldn't hurt either. Good luck. :thumb:

I'd also check your plugs and wires; if you can, even swap out plug wires with your friend to see for sure if that's the problem. For plugs, I'd recommend some stock NGKs. The BPR7ES work great, and you can pick them up from just about any local parts store for about 5 bucks, give or take.

How do they look now? What did you put in for plugs?

Irrelevant, do a boost leak test and then say this with confidence.

Sounds like it's rich to me :thumb:

Remember this phrase, "preventative maintenance." Take people's advice and check things before you rule them out as being the culprit. Fuel filter will cause symptoms exactly as stated above, so won't a boost leak.

well i can tell you it was running way to much cause the knock got to it. its now ticking so im replacing some valves and lifters tonight. it blows out a mean cloud of black smoke so i need a fuel controller also a fuel pump/filter and afpr.

Why do you need to replace the valves? There's no reason to justify this. Have you done a compression test to verify the valves need replacing? If there's only black smoke, and it's running decently, I doubt you need new valves.

Also, before you go replacing your lifters, I'd throw a bit of oil stabilizer in there to see if that quietens the ticking.

regap plugs to a smaller gap, youll be surprised how small you may have to gap them, but it worked for me when i was having the smae problem.

you don't have a evo motor in your car.

It's a galant vr4 RS engine.

Get your cable for the logger, do a 3rd gear pull and post the results.

Post knock, TIMA, O2v, and RPMs that should be enough for us to see what's going on.

Im having the same problem with my car.I just installed a 50 trim,650cc injectors.walbro 255 pump, and SAFC-II.When I give it alot of throttle it studders like crazy, right when the turbo really starts to spool up.I need to find out whats causing it. :(

i am willing to bet it is becuse you are running too rich, turn the boost down a little and lean it out until it will pull clean, mine did the same thing

1. I second that the intercooler on that 2g in the post above is gosh dang HUGE!
You should have ice going into your intake with that thing. I love it, wish I had it.

2. Yes, if you are bogging down before boost, you are probably running very rich. I agree with the statement posted above, just turn down your boost and lean it a bit. Take it for a spin see how it is.

Are you still tuning by the old seat and pants method?

Post a log.

how do i connect the logger to my computer to upload the info? and its not a galant engine fromt he states cause its got yellow top 510's and a 16g

I know it's not a engine from the U.S. Yes, you are correct it is a jdm, but it is a RS Galant VR4 engine, RS meaning Rally Spec.

Read the information at the link posted below.
The 2nd paragraph says "You have a 5% chance of getting a 91-93 RS version motor with the yellow bodied 510cc injectors and a Big 16G." The paragraph titled "EVO Motors:" read the very last line in this paragraph where it says "Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor." Oh yeah and this "They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolt to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission 2G Eclipse style. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor."

Maybe this will explain it for you.

i was just going by what i was told. people keep telling me its an evo 3 motor. i know nothing of the jdm motors cept this transmission is geared dif from others and its got a larger turbo and injectors

Who cares? It works, right? If the boy wants to say it's an evo motor, let him.

Did you fix your problem or what? Change the fuel filter, check your base timing, change your plugs, and last, but not least(actually it should be the first thing), CHECK FOR A BOOST LEAK.

Mods... new rule? "Don't post in the 'tuning talk' section about a problem until you have checked for boost leaks. If you have checked for leaks and there is no evidence of one, make sure that the car is mechanically sound before posting a question why your car is asking up."
