Last thursday, I drove my talon to school for the first time since I bought it. It drove decent but, since friday, whenever I have tried to start it, it dies. I go to start it, it starts but then it will die almost immediatley afterward. Whats weird, is that when i go to start it again there will be nothing. If i let it sit for a few hours though, it will start up and immediately die again. What is causing this?

When you say that you try to restart it immediately after it dies and "there will be nothing," what do you mean by nothing? Immediately after it dies, does the engine turn over? If it doesn't then its an electrical issue. As Calan said, most likely battery or alternator. If the motor turns over, then it also sounds to me like a fuel delivery problem.

I forgot to mention, i purchased a new battery, in addition to trying to jump the car to see if it had a weak battery/ alternator.

Also, i just noticed that after i try a few times to start the car, it will just give me weird clicking noises and not even attempt to turn over. When i bought the car, it had over a year old fuel in it and i added over 12 gallons of premium into it could it be that other "old" gas in it causing the problem?

What i mean, is it will just click and there will be no sounds of the starter even turning my flywheel or anything.

my car wasn't starting because it hasnt been running in a while and I knew the battery was low so I removed the battery and recharged it put it back in and the car still wouldnt start, but it had power. It had, what i'm assuming is, the same clicking sound you're talking about. I would keep turning the key and just hear *click* i pumped the gas and would keep turning and once in a blue moon she turned on. Turns out it was wiring in the dash from the ignition.

I am currently having the same issue, minus the fact that mine will continue to start but die within 2 seconds. My car has been sitting for over 3 yrs, i just reassembled engine and drained old gas. I drove car for an hour, im not sure whats causing my issue but i will repost what i find out for anyone elses future reference. Starting with fuses or fuel, then ecu.

To me it sounds like either the Alternator or the Starter..

But check the connections to make sure they are tight and not rusted up, that can also cause a lack of juice!

Try tapping the starter a few times, if the car starts after you do that then its your starter thats bad, if the starter is grounding out on the trans/block it wil shut off as soon as you start it, I had this problem in my old 90 tsi awd and it fixed the problem for me

Good luck, im having other issues in my 93 right now

I replaced my fuel filter, did a system clean and when I drove it home, the entire system was jolting. Almost like it was trying to die. The connections to starter are good and everything seems to be reading fine. Maybe a bad filter?
