I have posted many threads with no answer or even an idea of what could be wrong. I have a 97 Gst with a six bolt block and 7 bolt heads recirculated bov and front mount intercooler. i bought the car a few weeks ago when i test drove it, it drove fine. i bought the car and the clutch master cylinder went bad, i replaced it now when i drive it stalls when i press the clutch in to slow down it falls flat on its face and i have to pop the clutch to keep it going. also i usually dont have to be driving if i back out then go to put it in first it stalls too. but if i just go start the car cold and go drive it it doesnt stall rather it sounds like its missing and about to bog down?

I would run the codes on the ecu and see what it is throwing first...Check all your vaccum lines etc for any old hoses or vaccum lines that might be dry rotted or if you simply forgot to hook one back up....Make sure you bleed the clutch system good might have air in the lines....and un plug your map sensor and maf sensor for a bit and plug them back in and try to drive it..Just let me know when you have done this..Hope it helps if not then let me know.

so it only stalls when the car is coming to a complete stop when its warm? Does your rpm's surge at all?

i would like to know as well.... i have since sold my 98 gst but i used to do that as well ... it never really sounded like it was missing at idle but the whole slowing down and pushing the clutch and stalling part

I was having simialer issues with my tsi, after fixing small boost leak, new set of plugs and wires and resetting the BISS according to vfaq the issue was gone so id try thos steps see what happens good luck keep us posted

ok was bled a few time after the install and as far as vacuum lines it looks as if i have hooked them all up with your experiences is there any or one that you have over looked and forgot about being in a certain spot because when i look at it, it seems they are all ok. as far as map sensor where is that one located.

yeah when i start it up it idles really high at about 1800 then it drops to about 1000 then ill take it out to drive but ill back out put clutch in to put it into first and it stalls ill start it back up drive it to the exit of my apartment and as i approach the stop sign it stalls again. yet again ill restart it and drive it down the street and as i come up to a turn around ill press the clutch to slow down and dies again. sometime when sitting at a light it starts to act as if it will die and drop to about 600 rpm but then right back to 1000

sounds like iac motor or tps

What you can do is try this first. Take iac motor out and clean it with like carb or brake cleaner. Sometimes if has carbon build up on it. You can also take the throttle body off and clean the tb plate sometimes it sticks cause of oil or dirt and what not.

Check codes, could be a possible crankwalk since it seems to be directly related to disengaging the clutch and putting strain the your thrust bearing.

Symptoms are different for every car; the only consistent symptom is the engine not running in the later stages. Sometimes there will be a loud clicking sound if the crank is wobbling enough that it is hitting the crank sensor. A clutch pedal that sticks to the floor on left turns is also a typical sign

it doesnt do any of that or at least not that i have noticed there is no radio in the car so i hear everything that its doing, and after unplugging the map and maf sensor my boost gauge only reads -10 now instead of around -20 so from what i was told it looks like a big vacuum leak. Also on the map sensor is it supposed to clip in because it kinda is just sitting there there is no clip to release to unplug it or to hold it the connection in place

im tellin ya either iac motor or tps. If you have a multimeter you can check them.

SOL on the multimeter but someone has to have one around me, when i get it what am i looking for

ok so i went out to pull the tps and the iac out and as im taking them out and cursing because im getting rained and its cold as all hell i start looking around at my vacuum line and intercooler piping to find out that my lower piping isnt connected at all and its so hacked together i cant get it back together until i get a 2.5 to 3in coupler why cant people just do shit the right way the first time?

I had the same problem. I just fixed mine today. It was a boost leak.
Go to VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions and do a boost leak test. I never saw a mention of you doing one.

I actually just solved the problem, the wonderful gentlemen that i bought this thing off of completely hacked this car together so when i replaced the O2 sensor I put it back in and plugged it into where the original was plugged into. Turns out this einstein had it plugged into the cruise control actuator
