It seems that my car is having a problem. The car just had the head redone and the turbo is brand new. Oil is getting into the intercooler and after acceleration when I let off the gas it smokes horribly.
What do I need to check to correct my problem??

thanks
anson

color of smoke would help. anyone know the color

lets assume blue hmm oil burns blue so excessive crank case pressure due to bad ring would pump a lot of oil into the intake system. just cuz the turbo is new doesn't always mean the seal are installed correctly you can still get bad parts.

how much oil getting into the intercooler? maybe you should disconnect the pcv valve and put a filter on the end and see if that solves your problem. compression and leak down test time.

what else can i geuss for not enough info. anyone?

what if black smoke?

Oil in the IC pipes and the IC means that you probably have excessive blowby happening. Do a compression check and leakdown test to see what condition your rings are in and work from there.

edit: got beat to it :D

First you start out by getting a valve breather and a new pcv valve. Then you should take out your intercooler and all your pipes and clean all the oil out of them. If oil still goes in the pipes then the turbo is crap. But its deffinatly a possibility that your rings are toast too.

My guess is that the SBR turbo has bad seals. It just starting smoking like this with the new turbo. The old turbo which was bad didn't even smoke nearly this bad.
I guess I will take it off and send it to a company that can fix it properly.

thanks for the help guys

if its just smoking upon acceleration its not the turbo or the rings maybe when they redid your head the reused the same valve guide seals and if the didnt (which i wouldnt know why they would)there might have been a piece of dirt or something stuck in the hole for the guide

I am going to take the turbo off and send it in. Hopefully I won't have to get the head redone because of their error.

Yes. I took my T25 off and installed a 14b and after one week, it started smoking just as you described. I checked everything. Head (valve seals), compression (piston rings), crankcase pressure. It turned out to be a bad inner o-ring on the turbo. It was leaking into the compressor housing and it would smoke when it built boost. I just bought another 14b for the price of a rebuild kit. :thumb:

Buying another turbo isn't really an option since this one is a SBR Evo III 16G that is ported and has less than 10 miles on it.

I am not sending it back to them. I have had the turbo for about 9 months. It was just put on the car and it was a chore to get them to send everything I had ordered in the first place. Took over a month on something they said was "in stock".

Not going to let them screw me again.
