hey guys

i have a 1g fwd turbo 5spd. mods are in my profile. my car keeps running worse and worse. it is strange. it runs horrible when cold, i mean no power what so ever, it spits and sputters untill i hit like 5+ psi of boost then it pulls like crazy. i have replaced the coil pack, plugs, and wires. i have taken it to two different shops. one fond a bad seal on my injector but it really didn't make a diff., the other found a air leak in my intake manifold, runs a litlle better but not really. can you guys help me out and give me some ideas. i am tired of wasting my money. any ideas would be great, i am obviously new to the whole performance thing.

thanks
barry

Check intake system for leaks. BTW, you're not trying to boost with a cold engine are you?
Stay VERY low on the boost until engine is fully warmed up--the turbo needs time to heat up. See if that helps.

could it be the fuel filter. also could it be the fact that i still have a stock fpr. just a couple of my ideas that i want a second opinion on.

i am getting the fuel filter replaced today. it was too rusted on there for me to get it off there my self. i haven't had a chance to check for leaks yet. what is the easiest way to do this. i do appreciate the responses guys.

well guys the fuel filter didn't help. so i will hopefully get the leak test and fpr put on and put an end to this madness.

Do you have a S-AFC? If so you might want to play with the settings alittle, sounds like your over spraying fuel in the low settings and then in the higher rpms its getting the right correction.

trust me i have tried just about everything i can try on the safc. i think i have a leak somewhere. i was driving last night runs like ass between 0 and 7lbs of boost and once you are past that it doesn't run too bad. and for some reason if i am running above 90mph it runs better also. i am going to check for leaks tomorrow when everything opens again. thanks for all the replies guys and if someone else has any ideas feel free to chime in.

well guys i just finished installing the new fts fpr and still running like crap. i was going to make my leak tester. but the coupler that i bought is to big to fit on the turbo inlet. am i correct in thinking that this is where it connects to.

thanks
barry

There is a huge variety of couplers in the plumming isle of Home Depot.
One straight 3" OD coupler w/clamps, a PVC end cap, and hose barb (or compressor nipple) is all you'll need.

i have all of the parts but for some reason the 2 inch coupler that i bought is too big to fit on the turbo inlet.

Do you still have the rubber ring that came stock on the turbo inlet? 2" coupler should fit fine with that. If not, just get the 1.75" coupler which will be a perfect fit.

Do you have a logger handy, sounds to me like you are running on 3 injectors only. I had the same problem as you just 4 days ago. Tried everything you have done and the same problem existed. So since I just installed new injectors, I decided to test them with the logger and see what was going on with them. 1,2,3 tested fine and 4 had no result, so I restarted the logger thinking it was a error. 1,2,3 tested fine again and 4 had nothing. So I thought the 4th injector was crap, took a look at the plugs on top to make sure they were all in. The 4th plug was not seated all the way, pushed it down and bam the car runs like a champ again. Hope this is the same problem you are having, if its not the plug I would say one of your injectors took a crap. Get a logger and try it out, it cant hurt anything to try it out.

hey guys i am going to see if i can find a 1.75 in coupler tomorrow do you know where i can get one, and i am getting ready to get a logger. they have a color one on ebay for 99.00 does anyone know anything about them, i just want to find it all as a package. i really apreciate all the help guys, i have been into stereo competitions all my life and now i am trying the performance thing so please bear with me.

well looks like another trip to home depot. thanks man. so does anyone know about the loggers they have on ebay.

well it was a 1.5 inch adapter from home depot. huge leak where the lower intercooler pipe hooked into the manifold. another at the biss screw. when i replace the biss screw is it going to be a pain in the ass. it's not a bad leak but it is a leak none the less.
