Hey guys,

Im having a really frustrating problem here. For some reason my car refuses to be tuned. I had the boost turned up to 20 PSI a few weeks ago and had no problems whatsoever. My O2 read .88

One of my coolant lines on the TB busted and when i put new hoses in it, i bypassed the TB. Not smart, i forgot about the fast idle air valve which made the car idle real high...about 2000RPM. I then broke it back down and returned the lines back to the TB.

After this happening, i logged it and found severe knock...20+ counts.
I now have the boost down to about 15PSI, but i cannot lean it out at all. I have been forced to rich the entire rpm band up to .96 volts....hell there are black clouds when i boost.

Unfortunately, I still have knock, so i drive very easy and i dont boost. No matter what I do on the AFC, lean or richen, I have knock....normally between 2500 RPM and 5000. The knock count stays around 20. My O2 is at .96. My fuel trims are around 98% to 100% low mid and high.

Having said that, I have an older AFC, the one with the knobs...its a challenge to fine tune, but it has always done the job OK. However, I cannot find support for it...only the blue screen AFC's. I played around with it today and my low fuel trim was at 88% so i leaned it out at idle until i got it to 100%. I dont think this matters, but i know your supposed to keep trims at 100%....or is that only the blue screened AFC's, for low throttle maps?

I have boost leak tested it and reset the base timing. Everything seems to be in check. I noticed on previous Logs when the car ran decent, i had 20-23 degrees of timing advance. I only have 10-12 now at WOT. My timing advance skips between 7-12 at idle. If someone can give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated! Also I have the logs saved and can send them. They were logged with TMO.

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is a long shot, but maybe the busted TB line leaked coolant down the backside of your block, somehow tweaking the knock sensor. You tried resetting your ECU? I kid you not, my knock problem was solved by new ball joints and new suspension. My car would slam so hard it would make my car knock anywhere from 20-25. Somethings to think about..good luck.

It is very possible that you are getting other noise that the car thinks is knock. First thing i would do is change the oil.

To see if it is mechanical or fuel related knock, go with a tank of 110 octane or higher. This will immediately tell you if the knock is due to your tuning or something else.
