hey everyone. i just bought a 93 talon dl. bought it about 2 months ago. i love the car. since buying it i put a new head gasket, water pump, timing belt, exhaust gasket, and end links into it. plus little minor things like fixing exhaust holes an so on. like i said, i love this car. the interior is practically brand new. i redid some of it myself. but im getting a bad rattle noise. like metal to metal when i accelerate. and sitting in park when i rev it up to about 3000rpm its worst. i have no idea what it could be. please help, i really want to keep this car. and also i have an oil leak. it looks like its coming from the oil pan itself. i replaced the oil pan gasket but theres no difference. any help would be greatly apppreciated

Being the DL, you got the 1.8L in that thing (a plain jane version of the Eagle Talon)

Bet your flex plate is either loose or busted between the tranny and motor since you got an automatic.

Put it up on the ramps and take the inspection plate on the lower part of the bell housing and check the torque converter mounting bolt to the flex plate.

If they are tight, it could be a busted flex plate - and that calls for the tranny to be pulled and a new plate intalled.

And while the tranny is out, check the rear main seal for if that shows any leakage, you got the tranny already out to replace that rear main seal.

Why I'm sharing all of this is that this is what I had to do with my daughter's 91 Base Eclipse with the automatic: same kind of rattle - it was a busted flex plate and almost 500 bucks to have a shop put in a new flex plate and had the rear main seal replaced while the tranny was out. Got rid if the rattles real good now and the slow leak.

Good luck-DSM

thanks. as soon as i get some time away from school ill check it out. do you know if itll hurt anything if i continue driving it? its my only transportation to college an work right now

Best to do before is while at the red light or stopped is to put it in neutral so the tranny's pump is working to keep the load on the motor. This will still the rattle for the time being.

Now, what you've explained on the rattle, this is just a close guess that I'm giving you since I'm not there to give you the factuals on if this the exact on where the rattle comes from.

Do the checks and let a shop do the final say on what is what with your car.

Good luck - DSM
