Car only smokes when warm

I know this question is beat to death but I didn't find any answers yet..

My 97 TSi sat for a few months during the summer and didn't smoked much except for the occasional puff. Always ran Mobil 1 10w-30 and is pretty much stock except for the basic bolts ons. New radiator, VRSF front mount, rebuilt t25 were the only things done to it this summer.

The car now smokes blue (oil) ONLY after warming up and idling. Not a single puff when driving or starting. The intake pipes are clean, as was the downpipe and o2 housing. PCV was also taken out and cleaned. When I tore the turbo down the compressor housing had some oil in it but nothing bad.

So did my seals dry up over the summer? Hard to believe since there isn't any smoking on a cold start. Could there be residual oil burning off the intake since the compressor side of the turbo was leaking?

Going to run a comp. test next weekend but I wanted to hear if anyone has encountered something like this. All help is greatly appreciated.

Could be turbo seals, valve stem seals, or bad rings.Have you done any maintanance or check for leaks.Do you remember when the last time you did?

Valve seals...most likely have harden up over time. Replacement is the only option to end the smoking issues..

The turbo was just rebuilt (G Pop kit) so that is out of the question. Since the turbo was just off the car, the oil was changed and is always changed at 3,000 or less. I am under the assumption that if my valve seals are bad, it would smoke on a cold start since the oil leaks through and lays in the combustion chamber. Has anyone had valve seals leak only once the car is warmed up?

Valve seals...most likely have harden up over time. Replacement is the only option to end the smoking issues..

Is the answer I was going to give. I took my exhaust manifold off and noticed a sludgy buildup around the valve stems.

valve seals are a suspect though usually when they are bad it would smoke on a cold start and get better as it warmed up. I recently had this problem with a brand new engine and i changed the turbo and it solved it. The compressor side looked fine because it was leaking into the exhaust side of the turbo i'm guessing. I actually took my turbo apart and couldn't tell any signs of an oil leak to explain the amount of smoke i was getting and i know yours was just rebuilt but it is still a possiblity. Just saying had the same problem and it was my turbo.

It smoked before and after the turbo rebuild so I am almost positive it's not turbo related. Anyone have any luck using a little thicker oil or additives to help stop leaking valve seals? The talon is my DD, and would like to do the seals once it gets warmer out.

Once the teflon compound in valve seals harden up .. there is nothing to get them back to soft again. Besides when that teflon stuff goes hard, they also become very brittle and will actually shatter in plenty of pieces.

Thicker oil and treatments like STP is for worn rings, but not for dried out valve seals..

Correct only cure for leaking valve seals is new valve seals
