This is on a 420a. The car will crank forever but never start. So far I've checked compression, spark, timing, fuel and all the plugs and wires I could find. I have been trying to figure this out for a while and just cant get it. I dot know if I am missing something obvious or what but any help would be appreciated.

I have good compression, get spark at each cylinder, and when i push the pressure relief valve on the rail gas shoots out of it so i am assuming its getting gas.

I just put new plugs and wires in as part of this job. But I'll check on that stuff tomorrow! thanks for the advice!

they look basically new. The car will sputter if we spray some starter fluid in the intake. Does this mean its not getting gas?

Place a screwdriver on each injector when you try to crank it over, listen for a ticking sound, which would be the sound of each injector squirting fuel.

Was there any issues with starting before you changed the HG?

It ran fine before all of this. And we thought that may be it so we have gone back and checked all the electrical connections we could think of but haven't found any unplugged yet

I have had similar situations and recently found a no start situation after doing the clutch to be a rubber grommet out of place causing the fuel injectors to not fire. good luck.

I assume you mean a rubber grommet on the fuel injectors, is this correct? If not then where are you talking about?

Sorry about the confusion, I was referring to a connector to the fuel injector harness. The connection had a rubber seal which was out of place not allowing a proper connection, though it looked like it was connected. Once I put it back in place properly I was able to make the connector click closed.

Just went out and checked that and the rubber was right where it was supposed to be. I know my coolant temp sensor is messed up, and I will be replacing it later today, could this cause a no start?

I'm no expert by any means but if it sputtered with starting fluid it sounds like it might be fuel related.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I know I'm getting fuel to the rail, so it may be something to do with the injectors or circuits controlling them. When I get off work I'll check the fuel system pressure and then double check all my wires and fuses and what not for the injectors.

We'll getting fuel from the relieve valve, I would believe that just means your fuel pump is sending fuel to injectors. Doesn't mean injectors are opening.

It just cranking and cranking but plugs still look new, sounds like no fuel from injectors. Double check all wires and connectors under intake mani.

Something was left off if it ran just fine before is my best offer of help. I would go back through and make sure you didn't put the wrong connector on the wrong plug or just unhooked, aka something similar.

Yeah I'll do that. So I know I need to check the plugs at the injectors, fuel rail, but are there any fuses or relays or anything like that that controls them that I should check or is it all through the ECU?

Okay i fixed that but the car is still a no start. I just checked my fuel pressure and its not even hitting 10 PSI... So I will start looking into that

pressure relief valva as in fuel pressure regulator? is it the return or regulator to the intake? or is it the shraeder valve? if its the vacuum hose from regulator to the intake, your regulator is shot.

I just put the tester on the end of the fuel rail, where the screw cap is... I am not sure what it is called.
