car is idleing to high

my car is idleing at 2500RPM's does anyone know how to get it down to 1000.

try the idle set screw... and if it is throwing a check engine light... get your codes read at autozone or of the sort

did this just start happening out of the blue? or did you do some engine work and then it started doing it? if you've been monkeying around under your hood, check your throttle cable in addition to your BIS screw. if you've moved your throttle cable around, it could be too tight.

the only thing i did under the hood is changed a belt. my dad says that its the sensors

i have no idea im only 14 so i dont really know all the parts to my car

1st off, try adjusting the screw on the top of the throttle body, it will adjust the valve. If that doesn't work, chances are it will be either:
a) Idle Speed Controller
or
b) Idle Motor.

The ISC is located behind the throttle body, it had a black rubber boot over the top, with a wire that runs to the Idle motor. You can adjust the ISC, so try that before anyting.

ok kid... sorry bout the kid stuff but you are... there are great site on the internet to learn about your car parts and remedies... the best thing ever would either be a hayne's manual (found at autozone) or vfaq.com ... you can find just about anything in those places... and its best to learn what parts the site/book is talking about by referencing your car parts with what is in the book/site... there are a million pics of just about anything you want to learn about and what they do all over the web...

in the haynes manual, there is a troubleshooting guide at the begining of the book... but idling that high could mean a lot of things in there, a lot of which were just mentioned... so if you are getting a check engine light, have your dad take the car to autozone and have the codes read

good luck on the car for the 2 years itll take for you to legally drive it... but... if your dad lets you drive it... make sure he aint gonna piss himself in your new car......... if you know what i mean?
