So I recently purchased a 97 eclipse gsx with the 6 bolt 4g63 engine swap and the engine turns over but there is no spark at the spark plugs, the wiring under the dash is all jacked up and poorly wired together with several wires that aren't connected and some that are just cut so I was thinking a good place to start would be the wiring harness and I was wondering if I could just get a 97-99 gsx or gst wiring harness or would I need something different because it's the 6 bolt swap? Any help would be appreciated thanks

First off, you need to know what wires you have disconnected, if you know where they go, connect them back, or post pics for us to identify them and tell you where the hey go, once you see all connected give a try and we go from there,.

Otherwise people are going to get a lot worthless post suggestions.

So I figured out what was wrong it was just missing the ecm so I pulled that off a dead car and got it running and then the starter died on me so I put a new one in and now it has too high compression to turn over. I took the spark plugs out and without them it barely turns over my buddies are telling me they think it's seizing any ideas?

Yeah i can rotate it with a Rachet and a socket and get it to turn over, its hard to turn up to a point and then gets easy for like half the crank and then gets back to being hard, I'm not to experienced with engines but could it be a bent crankshaft or something of that sort? I'm gonna push it into the garage tomorrow and start tearing it apart to look at it

Hard to say from your description. When you turn an engine over normally its not that different from what you are describing. If the spark plugs are still all removed, there will be no compression in the cylinders to fight against you, but you will still have resistance to turning because the valve springs must compress while the cam tries to rotate.

My intuition says bent crankshaft is rather unlikely.

You are going to tear it apart because the car had a problem cranking after you installed a new starter?

begin with that

You sure you have the right starter and is it connected properly? How's the battery. To me doesn't sound like anything is seized up. But you have a starting issue, could Ben fuel or spark. Make sure you didn't knock any connectors loose while installing the starter. Sounds to me like a wiring nightmare and is the stem of your problem.

I just got the exact same problem last week, I replaced the battery cables and didn't want to crank, after an hour of checking the dem cables and connectors I figure out was the started, I replaced it with a new one and did the exact same thing, took me another hour to get to the conclusion it was the starter, after rebuilding the used one I had before (OEM) and put it on it fire right up like a 2016 year car

Check the started, test it and make sure It is working correctly, otherwise you will be disassembling the motor for a simply bad starter.

Okay thanks for all the help and feedback and I did just rebuild a starter out of 2 broken ones but I know it works but maybe it doesn't have as much torque as it needs so I'll go buy new one and try that first

I replaced the starter and it still doesn't want to turn over, it makes the noise like it's trying and the cams turn a little bit so I know it's working. When I turn the ignition there's a bunch of clicks from all over the car so maybe there's an electrical issue? And the engine is as hard to turn by hand with the spark plugs out as it is with them in I don't know if that's normal or not.

The motor did start 2 days ago I went to back it up so I could drive my new car for the first time and got 3 feet before I stalled it going up (I was backing up a hill and it's a stage 2 clutch) and I went to start it again and the starter was just grinding so I pulled it off and one of the sides that holds the threads was busted off and the other bolt the threads were stripped so it couldn't hold the bolt in. I have since replaced the starter and now the motor doesn't want to turn over I'm gonna replace the battery in the morning and go from there. And thanks everyone for the help I didn't think so many people would reply to me so fast

Oh ok I see. Seems like you're on the right track. Try the battery and if that doesn't work then check all the connections on everything. I replace my starter one time because it was "clicking". Come to find out it was a loose ground connection. Last but definitely not least pull the starter and have it checked. Even new starters can be bad.

So I replaced the there and it still does that Dame thing, I was thinking try to replace the relay?

They're all there, and so the injectors weren't perfectly aligned so they flooded the pistons completely and I drained the oil and it was a mix of oil and gas and now it turns over much easier but still won't move from the starter with the spark plugs in, it can crank over when they aren't in tho so somehow compression is too high for the starter? Maybe it's a bad starter even tho it's brand new? And I flushed the engine out and made sure to try to get oil on all the rings and I drained as much as I could from the pistons could that still be the issue somehow?

You have to clean the spark plugs which they are wet, make sure the temperature sensor is good or replace it to rule it out, if the temperature sensor is bad the ecu will throw to much fuel and will never start,.

If you have to much compression then remove one spark when trying to fire up, it will be more dificult to start but it can start like that and will make it easier for the stater to turn the engine over.
