So I recently purchased a 97 eclipse gsx with the 6 bolt 4g63 engine swap and the engine turns over but there is no spark at the spark plugs, the wiring under the dash is all jacked up and poorly wired together with several wires that aren't connected and some that are just cut so I was thinking a good place to start would be the wiring harness and I was wondering if I could just get a 97-99 gsx or gst wiring harness or would I need something different because it's the 6 bolt swap? Any help would be appreciated thanks

I tried that and if there is even one spark plug it has too much compression and is to hard for the starter to crank over, with no spark plugs it cranks over but just barely

I doubt your problem is high compression. I'm not even sure what would cause that. It's most likely an electrical issue that's not letting the starter crank well. Do yourself a favor and buy a multi-meter and check out the millions of videos online about how to test your battery and starter for correct voltage. I know it seems like a pain in the ass but it's actually not difficult and you'll be better off having learned how to do it rather than just replace parts all day. It's probably an issue with the battery or starter so get on it :).

So I replaced the starter again and got it to crank over finaly and after messing with the injectors and fuel pressure got it to fire up for about a seccond and a half before it completely seized I have a spare 6 bolt 4g63 from a 91 eclipse gs that threw a timing belt so I'm hoping from the two engines I can put one together

With the starter it doesn't even try to turn over and with a 3 foot breaker bar I can't turn it over by hand

Yeah turning the engine clockwise, the way it's supposed to, and when it ran for a seccond it didn't sound healthy there was a but of grinding and then it had a hard stop, like it suddenly just stopped moving all together instead of stalling or shutting off

I have not checked yet I will later thanks for the advise, and I think that's what I'm going to do, gonna tear it apart and go from there see what's broken

So I took off the head and the valves are bent pretty severely and it looks like it was only firing in 2 of the cylinders and now I can turn it by hand but it's still pretty hard so I think something in the block is messed up so I pulled the engine entirely gonna take the block apart in a day or two

possibly somthing bent between the motor and transmission? Judging by the other comments and not being able to physically see the car or a video of any of the sounds id pull of the transmission and start the car. maybe there is somthing binding in the transmission or the clutch isnt aligned properly so its creating a drag?

If you dont know how to check for timing marks here are a few refrences, by the bent valves it usually means timing is off. and if your pulling your motor you might aswell check these right away too. Cant hurt.

So I pulled the engine and took it apart, the oil pump was disconnected I guess?? So the oil wasn't actually moving and getting to the bearings or anything so naturally my crankshaft is all sorts of scratched up. I have a second 4g63 6 bolt that I pulled apart and the crankshaft in that one is in a little better condition so I'm going to see about getting it machined, I'm planning on replacing the water pump, gaskets all around, bearings, rings and a few bolts and stuff that are rusted ando or slightly stripped

So I was told that the pistons are from a 7 bolt and I could be wrong but I believe the pistons have to be machined to fit the 6 bolt? And if so what rings would be the best to match them? I was also wondering since I'm taking the head apart partially to put new valves, gaurds, and seats in it should i take it to get machined as well? And I believe it's a stock crankshaft would it be worth it to just get a forged one and not worry about it? Thank you guys for all the help this is the first car I've done any real in depth work on so it helps alot to have your input

The intake and exaust valves were bent so I figured best to replace seats and gaurds as well
