Car gutted: insulation options

Are you looking for heat insulation or sound insulation? For heat i would recomend special "bubble wrap" style insulation that has foil on both sides, it's used in construction and works great (speaking from experience). For sound i'd say use "Hush mat" or "Dyno Mat" that is like rubber with thick foil on one side. Beware, this kind of sound insulation is expencive and weighs alot but is amazing for cars with quality stereo systems.

I like using the Ruberized Undercoating spray, Works well for both, is cheap, and easy to do . Just make sure you are in a ventelated area as that stuff stinks to high he11! Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Have you looked at dynamat? It's mostly noise insulation for stereo systems. The down side is that it is heavy and somewhat difficult to remove. If your trying to keep the exhaust drone out try it...

On another note, I've been thinking of tossing some home interior fiberglass insulation in my trunk ROFL. The trunk is gutted and my exhaust tip doesn't stick out past the bumper so my trunk is like a giant sub box.

dynamat works great, but is heavy and expensive. if you're looking for partial heat and sound insulation (compared to dynamat or other tar based solutions), with very little weight, there's a an adhesive backed foam w/ foil liner product at home depot, that is very light weight. It's sold in the a/c duct section, is about 12" wide and I want to say it comes in 20ft long rolls? I used it on top of the factory sound deadening in another car after I got tired of the rattles and coming from an aftermarket exhaust install. It helped a LOT and only added a couple pounds, even after doing the whole floorpan up to the door beltline and full trunk floor.

I picked up 'peel and seal' and did the quarter panel and rear wheel wells ,installed two layers. The trunk and the floor will make with 'phat matt' because thats where lots of noise commin from outside and exhaust

Expanding foam, then a coat of primer to seal it all then paint? Or truck bedliner(lizardskin is supposed to be a heat and sound insulation)

if you gutted the car for weight reduction why put the sound deading back in..

other wise just put the interior back in.

Maybe he gutted out to lay some insulation. I did same to my car.Just tiered to ride in a loud, vibrating car. A "luxury dsm" is much fun to drive..... And adding the wight is not a big deal . Not every dsmers builds they're cars to run a 1/4 mile.... Like i said ,its really cool to owe a 500 whp, sleeper and quiet ride ;)
