Car backfiring

Ok so i was on here once before, trying to figure out things. I own a 92 tsi, and experiencing alot of problems. So my car has a strange idle, valve ticking,and lots of backfiring. I was told the ecu needed dsmlink, because the ecu wasnt a turbo ecu. Im buying dsmlink very soon for the record. However my buddy brought over a spare turbo ecu and, we plugged it in and fired her up and still the same issues. My mods are a 16g, 255 walboro fuel pump, a safc2, syock 450ccs. Now i zeroed out the safc today and left the rest of the stuff alone car runs steady on idle but sounds poor and now on initital start up i heard a really loud bang from the engine like a backfire but worse i immediatly turned it off and checked everything, seems to be fine my wideband,isnt giving,me accurate readings i read a 7.4 but it flashes sometimes just dont know how to solve this. Any ideas

Just wondering if you have an aftermarket bov. And if so is it recirculated?

Yes its an aftermarket bov and im not sure if its recirculated

If it's not recirculating back into your intake your car will run like poop. Start with the easy stuff first.

The air from the bov should be routed back into the intake

There would be a hose going from the bov to the intake. Like a 2" hose.

In that case yes it is recirculated it also has a boost controller right,next to it

Sounds like a BLT (boost leak test) is in order for you...
Also if you are running that rich at idle, you may be experiencing FPR (fuel pressure regulator) over run. Typically it is advised to get an afpr (adjustable fuel pressure regulator) with the wally 255.

Mine also backfires. I have a walboro 255 and no FPR. I think LaserShark is right.

I have an aftermarket fpr it sucks though . Its weird though would a rich idle cause an idle surge?

And boost leak was tested its fine that was the first thing i checked that loud pop scared the crap outta me worried about the car at this point

The reason I say that is because I don't see a MAF on your intake pipe by the filter. And also it's hard to tell but I can't tell if your bov is recirculating.

Yes thats my bay i can take tons of pictures for you even give you a video of the car at idle and it has a gm maft with a translator the connector is underneath

I know my waterpump is blown its leaking coolant right by the flex pipe its bad were tearing the whole side of the engine off hopefully this upcoming weekend

Good news is she isnt my daily so i have all the time in the world to work on her just want to diagnose the idle and get her performing right
