I have tried every valve spring removal tool I can find and can not get the springs to compress on my 95 turbo head. What tool do I need? Is there a how to on this somewhere that I am missing? HELP!!

Put half of the cylinder head off of a table or put a rag scrunched up right under where the valves are, and hit them with a rubber mallet. It will knock the tension off of the keepers a little bit. Then try a valve spring compressor. The way our cylinder heads are you have to have a spring compressor that will go further down into the cylinder head. If you have access to a hydraulic valve spring compressor then its so much easier that way, a lot of machine shops have them.

I cut a deep-well socket up and welded it to a Sears spring compressor. Cost me $20 plus a socket I never use from a spare set I have. Well, I could have just welded it to it, but I welded a little wing-nut thing that wasn't really necessary. :D

I pretty much did the same thing as above. Used a deep socket but didn't have access to a welder so I put a ton of duct tape around the socket and it held. A little blow with a dead blow hammer before seemed to help too.

Duct Tape!?! I would have at least used JB Weld. Whatever works...I would hate to be around when that valve spring is under compression though. ROFL

Many people use the welded socket method with great results.

OK, I got them out..I went and bought a 8" C clamp and took the part off of my crap auto-zone valve spring compressor tool that actually touches the valve spring when you compress it..and I modified it..Basically I just made a horse shoe looking metal thing and JB welded it to my C clamp...worked GREAT! I will have to get a pic of it..its too hard to explain what it looks like..but I got it anyway.. Now I need to know what size they are so I can get new ones auto-zone list 2 different exhaust valves for that car...95 turbo auto fwd talon... I think its 1.20 AKA 30.5mm

Yah, i found when I did my friends 420a head taking them out with just my hand and and the socket with the peice cut out worked but putting them in we had to weld the socket to the compressor and it worked pretty damn slick. +1 for shocking the keepers with a rubber mallet as well. A pick and magnet never hurt to have close by either.
