I had a 92 Laser RST. It was FWD. I sold it tho bc i joined the Army. Now i have some money and looking to buy a new car. I loved my 240sx but i loved my laser. I wanted to get a 2g if i did get a DSM. I dont know what to so i think i will ask some fellow DSMer's. It is so hard!

i have buddys with awd dsms' i own a gsx and DD a wrx. and ik a guy with a sick built sr20 240 with 3076R on it i think? the car is very sick car but when he lines up against a built up awd he still looses just ### of traction i would choose what you will feel happier with both have plus and negitives as anything does:)

i have both DSM and 240,

when driving for fun i get into the DSM the majority of the time, but i do also drive the 240 to Drifto events here in nashville.

DSM is my choice though.

American? Um yea DSM is technically an American car. Correct me if im wrong but all dsm were built in IL

You have to look at where the money goes when you purchase the product straight from the dealer. The profit goes to the homeland, not America. That's what I mean.

Really depends on the driver. Most people don't really know how to drive their cars. Whether it be a AWD or a RWD or a FWD. Although Ford new Focus RS claims that it can launch like a AWD car. Which I wont agree till I line up to one at the track and he pulls better 60 ft times than me.

not even remotely. thats at least a year of work and custom fab. Oh and and it kills your weight distro nicely.

aluminum ls1 motors arnt much heavier than ka24 iron blocks. . . IIRC

But yea what a sad waste of time since the ka itself can be turboed and handle more whp than the ls1 puts out stock, without even upgrading the long block with more than a turbo cam HAHAHAHA

With the $ you said you have in the bank I wouldnt get neither. An unmolested 03' evo can be had for around 14k nowadays. If this is gonna be your dd dont get a 10-15 yr old car. My talon is my dd and I WISH I had a newer car to dd and keep the talon as my "fun" car.

its not so much about the actual weight but where it sits. An LS1 sits more in front of the axel so it makes it more nose heavy.

I recommend you go with the 240. I used to work for Nissan and I can honestly say that those are really good reliable cars that are unbelievably easy to work on. Now the DSM, incredibly high maintenance with a turbo. I've never had so many problems with working on a car as this one, and I've been driving a camaro for the last few years where the engine is actually under the dash. You wanted honesty, that's about as good as it gets right there.

Pros/cons: AWD eclipse

Pros:
launches are awesome
very good grip
makes very good power
$4000 for a decent one/2K in parts for good HP
good 60ft
awesome Rally-X
winter driving

Cons:
Cant drift
Sort of gets boring because you almost have too much grip
not very reliable/ high maintenace
WILL leave you stranded

240SX:
Pros:

Rwd, with good tires grips ok.
Can drift easily
makes very good power
3000 for a decent one/3k in parts for hp
reliabilty
burnouts through 3rd gear
wont leave you stranded if modded cleanly

Cons:

Crappy 60ft times
no awd launches
not that good for rally-x
not that good for winter (but can be done)

It's all up to you, read my pros'cons between them and sort out which are more "valuable to you"

I personally have always wanted a 240sx to play around with, they are in every way respected the same by me, because whay you cannot do with a awd eclipse you can do with a 240, what you cant do with a awd eclipse (which isnt a lot) you can do with a 240.

I want both.

I vote evo8 MR hands down. I have had dsm's all my life my next car will be a evo for sure. If you have that kind of money get a newer car it is a better investment.

Yea but an EVO is around 18k and parts are expensive... I like coupes i cant stand 4 door. I would rather get a subie for cheaper and faster IMO. So i would like a 2g.

A swapped 240 would be awesome. The only thing is winter if you live in a area with snow. Im also with dsm8883, get an evo. I know thats a car i would love to get in the future.

That's wild because it took me and my buddy about 4 days to do the entire install. And with the LS1 he was actually lighter than his KA and his SR he had.

So before you open your thought process, google to find some facts.

Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about, so please stop. ROFLROFL

I mean seriously, just because you can't drift your AWD car, does not mean they cannot drift. AWD can and do drift, it just takes talent which evidently you have a lack of.

How can you get tired of grip?

How can you say 240s don't get good 60 ft times?

Please have an understanding about how to drive and what cars can actually do before you spread misinformation.

100% agree with all that he said
just was to polite to write it all

the 2JZ swap is heavier, and throws off the balance a little
but nothing that suspension tuning cant take care of

RWD>AWD>FWD Im a rear wheel drive fan i love bean able to drift there is a lot more excitement involved honestly i have had both cars and loved both of them go with which one you think looks better they are both cool honestly I would take another MKIII supra over both of them thats just me though good luck man

First of all, a stock 240's 60ft times arent in comparison with a stock awd, ever.

I dont believe that you can AWD drift your 1G anywhere unless it was wet and icy. (Im talking a real drift, Gymkhana, circuit)

Personally, as i am entitled to my opinion, I dont like to always grip, as i don't like to run the 1320. RWD is funner to "me"

Its very easy to say I cant drive drive over the internet, You dont know me or what I have driven, So shut your mouth. Please.

To OP, go with what you like better. There is a lot of good information on this forum that will show you how to cleanly mod your car. Just make sure you dont listen to people like Rock1t that think their shit dont stink. This is why I rarely come on this forum anymore. More bashing on someones opinions/ and fact.

PM me rock1t if you think your Oh so knowledgeable self can tell me how i spread misinformation, Also you can send me some video of myself "not driving" my cars correctly to your standards. Thanks

Don't get your panies in a uproar dude. Everything I have said, can be backed up and if you are talking about AWD drifting, and the Ghymkana, I am pretty sure that ken blocks subaru's were both AWD. Weird isn't it?

Also, I am not spreading misinformation. You were.

And if you want to compare driving, I will be tuning my car at Putnam Park on March 28. (it's a road course and its a open track day that they call lapping day). I would love to see you there, or we can find a track closer to you.

Then I will be attending various events all summer long like I do every year.

If you want to see me on the 1/4, I will be at Pinks All Out on April 24th.

I never did say my shit don't stink. I just don't think you need to be saying that the LS1 sits up in front of the front axle, which if you ever put one in, you would know you have to take a sledge hammer and beat the fire wall in, to get the motor and the trans to mount together.

Also, 60ft times all depend on the driver. Not the car. I hate watching brand new Z06's running 13 and 14 second quarter miles, because they don't know how to drive their car.

If you have never done it, don't act like you have. If you want to do it and don't know how, use the search button or post up your question.
